The japanese setting really makes it stand out for me in the Total War Saga... Back then, I had this italian shogun fan site and the online play (56k, rich ones had ISDN...in italy at least) was great despite the lag and drop outs. I could write pages about it so I'll stop here and say that but for me it's the best Total War (the Mongol Invasion extension was quite crap though)! wow, shogun was and is still amazing.
