Considering Play.com's price for the Xbox version of the Orange Box (contain both Half Life 2 and Episode 1 as well) is around £35, I say, stop your fucking whining.

<i>"I guess I’ll have to wait till the crack comes out."</i>

Tsk.

There will undoubtedly be more flexibility as to what you can buy when this is on Steam, and I'd be surprised if Ep2 wasn't offered separately. Let's just hang back and see what's offered in the next couple of weeks - they should start preloading soon.

The Orange Box is only for what you'll find in the shops - apparently retailers couldn't cope with both Orange and Black boxes, so Valve (and EA, of course) went with the big value Orange Box as that's what the consoles are getting, too.

I just want Episode 2, I don't want to be paying for all this extra crap that I'm never going to play. I'm pissed that Valve originally said each episode would run about 20 bucks, and now I'm stuck having to pay god only knows how much for this orange box.

It's cool that Valve is putting these all together in one box. It strikes me as odd that, after a decade of production, they're packing in Team Fortress.

I'm wondering if they don't have plans for to grow something viral out of it, or if Gabe simply wants all that tasty, tasty player data.

I'm rather hoping that the outcome of that Dog / Strider fracas will be messily akin to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen's Mr. Hyde versus Martian War Machine encounter.

Yes, they have. At least there's a new particle and shadow system.
I suppose you could play with those turned off, but maybe they've increased the textures quality and polycount of the models.

Will any of games on offer here, or Left 4 Dead in fact, be any harder to run than Half Life 2 is currently? They haven't added anything fancy in have they?

<i>Spawnpoints in Team Fortress Classic were guarded by indestructible turrets that would tear apart any enemies who camped the area. One assumes TF2 will work the same way.</i>

Yay!

I'll still be playing Portal first though, because the videos make my mind go all super woo.

I've been looking forward to these for years. Everyone knows each title in itself is going to be more or less superb. Anyone who won't be playing the lot on the day they come out will be prodded by strangers with pointy sticks, and chased out of modern society for their ignorance - ablaze.

So it's a wonderful realisation I won't have a machine capable of playing them...
