I have to say whenever I see anything epic make I can't help but think that their concept artists are big fans of the art of "Tom of Finland". You can google search that, but you might find it's not worksafe, or to your tastes, but there is no denying there is some similarity there ;)

Those grenades were useful things. Almost as good as a flak grenade.

Also, shield gun/piston is the best. Dodge fast enough, and you can plaster them all over the walls.

As far as I remember it, the original 'Unreal Tournament' (in the games mythos) was designed to keep the employees on remote mining colonies entertained. Thus why nobody actually dies or something.

The war element comes from the single player 'Unreal' games. Although I never really played 2003 or 2004 so I don't know how they fit in.

Whatever, the designer's clearly have a storytelling itch to scratch with this universe but they decided to embellish it in the single player of this game rather than making an Unreal 3. Something I'm sure we can all be grateful for.

I’m wondering if the single player campaign is like a prequel to the first UT game, and the MP is the part that’s in the future of the tournament. The first UT talked about a necris war and mining colonies and such that led to the tournament.

Now that you mention it, that's actually very likely. I remember Necris Wars and Mining Colonies somewhere.

However, this video is rather ambiguous. I can't tell whether it's SET in those far-off days in the Colonies, or if it's set later, and the video just showed where the thing began.

However, as Al said,

2003 kind of had a sorty of proto-plot tacked on to the single player ladders- but at least it kpet it within the bounds of the “Tournament” remit.

From what I can see, the "tournament" bit has been ignored for the SP and tacked onto MP. Which makes no sense. Thus, MP and SP are entirely different beings.

I don't like how it feels like an XBox 360 game. I hope that's fixed up. It's near-impossible to maneovure in the menus, and I miss my Enforcer grenades.

It also seems like they've taken a lot from their work on Gears. Everything seems more futuristic and dark. Which, while bad IN the dark, is good otherwise.

Considering the previous UT titles had botmatch and "singleplayer" (botmatch plus trophies and pre-defined level ladders) to choose from I welcome a tacked on story, it'll at least make it more enjoyable for off-line players like myself. There are simply too few servers that I can play on without massive lag (despite a cable modem connection) for me to become an active multi-player, player.

I don't expect the greatest single player experience ever, but I expect to have some fun and then play lots of mods. I might hold off on buying this one for a little while though, as Assassin's Creed and Time Shift are going to be taking up my late November buildup of spare change.

I don't mean to be a snob but urrgh. What must the meetings at Epic be like?

"So, like, we get this dude, big dude, and we'll give him a super-huge gun. Then we'll put a chainsaw on it. It'll be super-awesome! He'll, like, totally chainsaw through monsters and stuff. And he'll be a bit like a samurai warrior so your enemies know that you could totally flip out and burn down the town at any time. And the music will be, like, totally heavy metal techno shit that will rock and be super-awesome."

"Okay 14 year-old boy, we will realise your vision. What do you want for a plot?"

"Fuck, who cares? As long as there are, like, cities getting burned to the ground and innocents getting slaughtered, I don't give a fuck about plot."

That is one of the greatest works of comedy ever. If the whole game is full of over the top self parody like that it will be a blast.

Agreed. It looks hilarious. Then again, it's Unreal. It's not like there's a story behind it anyway.
