I think I can see it getting a bit tedious running back and forth and sitting through the text writing animation to get the topics that you saw earlier but didn't have room for. Except that not all NPCs had real responses to everything, so you would have to go through a huge list of dozens of key words until you found the one or two that the person you were talking to actually knew about.
