The Dallas Business Journal claims that Duke Nukem Forever is “confirmed” for release on the PC and consoles in 2008. It goes on to back up this report with a somewhat less definitive quote from 3D Realms’ Scott Miller:
“We haven’t formally announced any platforms for DNF,” wrote 3D Realms President Scott Miller in an e-mail exchange. “But, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360).” Miller added a note of caution on the 12-years-coming sequel and its release window, claiming, “we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we’re on target this time.”
It’s looking like it might just happen this year. Maybe. Probably. Yes.
Or not. Update on Shacknews:
“3D Realms has informed Shacknews that a release date and platforms for Duke Nukem Forever were not confirmed in its interview with the Dallas Business Journal. A more detailed response is expected later today.”
Hrm.

BS.
If Duke Nukem Forever ever actually comes out, I’m going to buy the damn thing. Why, you ask? Actually, I don’t really have a good reason, but that’s never stopped me before!
Duke Nukem NEVEREVER
Whatever.
It’s the end times!
Team Fortress 2 released, now this?
The end is most definitely nigh!
Who then would be the posterchild for vaporware?
Spore?
Honestly, after all this time it better be the bloody gaming messiah.
@ Elyscape
That’s a great way to save 50 bucks, because the game is never going to be released. Ever. It’s all Tom foolery and shenanigans I say.
well if the Dallas Business Journal says its coming it HAS to be true. Also noone cares anymore
I fear mass disappointment through high expectations.
Spore is a mere amateur in the world of vaporware.
@Windlab:
High expectations?! From who?
But seriously, it must be hard to be in the developers place, the game has been a joke for such a long time… Mostly it’s their fault, but still… And we all know that it wont be as good as the good old Duke Nukem 3D :D
Nobody should be disappointed when this game comes out.
This game should have already destroyed any hope you ever had of it even being released, and you should already realize that they are using a physics engine that isn’t even new anymore, that was purchased by PhysX and will therefore suck ass through a firehose.
Lets be real here for a second.
If you buy all your software, and then wait 3 years before you start using it, it’s outdated.
You can pretty much expect this game to be 10000% mediocre.
10000% mediocre sounds pretty awesome. The extra 9900% has gotta do something!
I like how people say “no one cares anymore”. Obviously you care enough to click on a link saying get IT here. Face it, you want him.
Don’t dismiss or hail it until you see unedited gameplay.
If it’s coming out this year, shouldn’t they know if there will be a 360 or PS3 version by now?
I plan on buying this game when it comes out (obligatory LOL) for one of two reasons:
1. If it sucks I can say “Damnit, I waited 12 years for this shit?!?!”
2. If it is good I can say “Guess a 12 year development cycle really helped make this game good”

“3D Realms Disputes ‘Confirmed’ Reports of Duke Nukem Forever on PC and Consoles This Year”
@Velt: Yes the game will be mediocre, but not because of outdated physics engines or lack of graphical goodies. This game will be mediocre because it won’t bring anything new to the table. It will be a rehash of a game that was innovative back in the 90s.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some more undersea cables to cut.
Big 3? Wouldn’t that be PS2, DS and Wii?
Other, less confirmed PC rumours from Shacknews:
Mass Effect for the PC has been spotted on an Electronic Arts retail release list, with a date of tba 2008.
@Emil
Nah, the big three would be the PC, the original Xbox, and the PS3. Why those, you ask? Well, PC towers can come in enormous sizes, the Xbox is XBOX HUEG (photographic example), and the PS3 is, fittingly, PS3 HUEG.
@PuPPeTeeR
However mediocre the game, I thought release delays always increased hype / expectations, due to the reasoning of “They must be doing something really special for them to take so long”.
That’s clever. Using the Dallas Business Journal as an unwitting pawn.
One month, two, twelve years. What’s the Difference?
