Cactus: Sumo & Ninja

By Jim Rossignol on February 8th, 2008 at 11:01 am.

One-man game production line Jonatan “Cactus” Söderström has released another two games. First there’s the bizarre static shooter SeizureDome, where you have to avoid being pushed out of the ring by heavy but slow moving Sumo wrestlers, or light but fast-moving naked women. You have a gun, and must gib them to avoid failure. (Söderström could hardly be more different to the other Cactus Game Design.)

Then there’s Shotgun Ninja, which is your basic 2D platform ninja game, where the martial artist in question is armed with a shotgun. Yeah, have fun.

That guy is a genius. I keep playing msoid in a regular basis. My steam launcher is filled with his games. I wish he worked on a “pro” project using steamworks.

and the giant diaper-clad babies with the invulniballs. Wow. I’m speechless.

I strongly advise against operating SeizureDome while under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs.

SeizureDome is the best minigame i ever played. Everything is cool from music to “characters”. It’s awesome.

Cactus is actually a time-traveller. In an alternate universe, he spent years on each of these games. Then, he came back in a time machine and gave them all to his younger self.

This is the only logical explanation for such greatness in such a short amount of time.

  6. These games are cool. As one would expect from cactus.

Unfortunately though, Shotgun Ninja has the “slide off the edges of platforms, to your death, before you can jump” problem that so many indie platformers get wrong. In a game with so high a difficulty level, that’s kind of unforgivable…

The fat sumos actually look like a mad Modron from Planescape with drumsticks for arms…

SeizureDome is brilliant, just a note though. You can move using WASD, in my first two games I thought it was just a straight shooting exercise. So if you’re a bit slow like me, that might help.

And the babies with the Invulniballs are both awesome and tough.

    Everyone should play this.
