Eat All The Pies

By Alec Meer on February 8th, 2008 at 10:36 am.

Mmm. Pies.

Gore Verbinski might be calling out for more ‘madness’ in electricvideogameland, but it’s possible he hasn’t peered into the medium’s obscurest nooks and crannies. Smaller publishers retain a weird drive to document the stranger adventures of the human animal in pixel form. Take a look at the most recent releases on Steam, and you’ll note 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul, Hunting Unlimited 2008 and Prison Tycoon 3 (3? How much tycooning does the jail system need?) amongst their number. Trucking, animal cruelty and incarceration-economics – is there nothing the modern videogame cannot faithfully recreate?

Developer/publisher Mastiff is next to document one of the, um, finer points of American life, having just secured the exclusive rights to adapt Major League Eating. Yep, Power-Digestion: The Videogame. At last?

FAT MEN ARE FUNNY

“Major League Eating: The Game features the world’s greatest gurgitory athletes competing across twelve different food types. Built much like a fighting game, MLE: The Game requires players to show brilliant on-screen eating; a mastery of offensive and defensive weapons including burps, belches, and mustard gas; and of course the technical mastery necessary to avoid emptying one’s stomach in a vividly colored reversal of fortune.”

Videogames = art? Discuss. Next week- Touch The Truck: The Game.

    Those pies look so tasty.

Um, this game sounds as crap as the ‘sport’ it is a game of..does that make it a successful recreation?

I don’t think Mastiff are aware that there are people playing games on PCs, so we’ll probably not have to worry about this one.

‘Vividly coloured reversal of fortune’ has now replaced ‘chucking your guts’ as my favoured euphemism for vomiting.
