The last time I played Dungeon Keeper (a few years ago) I used a program called Throttle to slow down my CPU. I think it works by disabling most of the physical processor so that only a small part is actively processing, which is controllable and easy to use. This time around I'm going to try playing through DosBox. Hope this info helps.

I can't but help think why you all did so poorly in your quest through the dungeons... If you have ever been looked in to your own room, you would know what I mean when I say: I understand why Horny started to ruin your dungeon...

My problem is simple about this game, no one knows how to control the power, but I.. Never have I met anyone to match a full blooded army of Horned Reapers destroying everything in their path, and not each other.. and if you don't belive that Horny is controllable, I would gladly show it to you, as he is, and very easily infact...

oh and for those who want to play it on vista? CHANGE THE COMPATABILITY!!! theres an option in control panel that lets u use an old program on vista...
"Control Panel>Programs>Use an Older Program with this Version of Windows"
p.s. if i seem like a bastard, it's because I AM ONE!!!

Uh. Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon Keeper 2 are both working flawlessly on WinXP, it all matters how fast your cpu is, and what soundcard you are using. I have two computers.

One laptop that is 1,8Ghz, 1GB RAM, and with the X-fi Extreme Sound Blaster card. DK2 is crashing constantly here, either I get a crash report, or the computer freeze up and I have to reboot.

The other computer, which was 1,8Ghz in the beginning, now down-clocked to 1,1Ghz, due to some motherboard damage, with Sound Blaster 16, 500 RAM, it works just flawlessly.

Sounds, game, anything.. never occured a crash ever. Both systems are running WinXP.

Your computer is way too fast. Game will crash because of that. And if sound is stuttering, that's because the sound is too new and incompatible with this game.

So to actually enjoy this game completely, get at highest 1Ghz, I don't think RAM matters. Soundcard, SB 16. I know this sounds crap that you have to get an old computer for this to work, but imo it's worth it, because other really old games are also working flawlessly.

Pure persistence lol. I'm playing it for the upteenth time now and getting through it rather quicker than expected. I think the AI has died lol. Opponents seem to just die out after a while.
For those who asked: It is playable o everything as far as I know.
PS: I'm MAD about Horny. Gotta love him! And he's not always a badboy, I've had a couple stay happy with me....

After reading the review, I realized how close Dwarf Fortress actually is to the original DK concept.

Some thing I remember now: was the Avatar (the guy you have to kill eventually) THE Avatar from the Ultima series? Would be a nice stab to Origin if that were the case now right?
Yes, he even had the same character model/graphics as the Avatar AS SEEN in Ultima VIII: Pagan.

Dungeon Keeper and Majesty were the flipsides of the same coin, but I believe Dominus was the very first of this kind:

http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?name=Dominus
I had that WAY back in my 386 days. Never got the sound working though, so I missed half the immersion and the game sorta lacked focus as there was no real reason to play. The game was also very easy - Just create loads of high-stat monsters by playing in the polymorph chamber and throw them into a 'battlefield', jumping in to play every so often when the battles went against you.
