My Childhood In Gaming Form

By John Walker on February 24th, 2008 at 1:07 am.

Lordy lawks, this is the best thing my eyes have ever seen:

It’s a free mod for Unreal Tournamnt 3, and can be downloaded here.

The mod’s creator, LordSimeon, describes it as,

“More of a test at playing around with the new Physics options, so almost the whole map is destructable. There’s 20 or so various types of LEGO blocks built into houses, walls and shapes. By the end of the match, it’s mayhem. There’s a lot I could have done, but it is mainly a physics test.”

LEGO are notoriously protective of their IP, so, er, download this one before they notice.

There were some great Lego maps for the original UT. One kind of merged into a giant kitchen (probably noddy’s nightmare)

Ok, everyone make placards, link arms – we have to protect this if Lego come knocking, we must preserve this little Lego habitat for future generations. Because it is super.

    Two questions:

    1. Does this require that nonsense Ageia physics card?

    2. What is that incredible song?

  6. Ryan says:

Er, never mind, the Youtube page says it’s…

    …ELP.

I just enjoyed an ELP song.

OH GOD THE SHAME! I must pay for my tastecrime by going out and getting a Tarkus tattoo. :(

Nice. There’s a rather insane TF2 map going around with a whole Mario theme. Too bad it’s completely unplayable.

THIS IS THE BEST UT3 MAP EVER

Also, I showed this to a friend of mine and he had this to say:

That person sucks at building legos.
    They just fall apart.
    They’re not even fastened. :(

On the topic of lego games, Roblox is win. Again, fully destructable Lego, but you can build stuff with lego; not just destroy it. Oh, and it’s fully Lua-programmable. ^^ http://www.roblox.com/

Now with the lego demolition. And me claiming videogames are new literature.

We’re royally screwed if people actually enjoy this crap.

  16. Matu says:

Hey Ryan – as Ageia was acquired by Nvidia lately, they are going to add PhysX support to all of their GF8 cards. And the best part is that when they eventually get this to work, it will be released as a driver, so you don’t have to buy a new card (if you have a GF8 to begin with that is). This is how it should have been done from the beginning. http://techreport.com/discussions.x/14147

And you dont need a PhysX card to play this map. Plus it is on PC – although I had sight slowdown and the bots get very easily confused.

    Still awesomeness.

Is it just me or does Kotaku seem to be ‘borrowing’ most of your links these days?

  22. yxxxx says:

Gonna have to buy this game sooner than i imagined.

Now do i get it on ps3 so that it will run and look nice or pc where it will run slowly and look poor but cost more

Decisions decisons. Its not like even potential mods is a problem as they should all work on the ps3 as well :(

  23. A Lego Enthusiast says:

No Lego Tower would ever fall like that! As any Lego Enthusiast would know, it would splinter at the bottom from the hit and just tumble over in one large tower, possibly breaking apart as it hit the ground. Tut Tut Tut.
