Just wanted to say thanks for the nice write-up! We’re glad you enjoy the game, hope you continue to derive perverse pleasure out of it.

Just to respond to a couple comments: Meat Circus, I can assure you, there was nothing “lazy” about the development of Forumwarz! The code is extremely complex and constantly evolving. Web standards are great, and yes, sites should be developed for them, but we’re not talking about a weblog here…it’s a highly complicated Ajax game. You really can’t apply “standards” to something like this, because nothing like it has ever been done before.

Someday we would love to have it Opera-compatible, but at the moment the development time it would take to get us there just isn’t worth it for the 1% of our visitors who run it. I used to be an Opera evangelist myself…until I discovered the Mouse Gestures add-on for Firefox.

Zeno, Internetographer: You don’t have to “pay” anything to play. Those who choose to donate can get bonus features, like the ability to cheat, a custom avatar, etc. So you may resume being interested :)

As much as anything else, it’s evidence of *extremely* lazy development. You shouldn’t develop for Firefox, IE or anything else. That’s how we ended up stuck with IE6.

You should develop for web standards.

There are plenty of great Ajax APIs that can hide browser foibles if that’s what’s getting your goat.
