I hear the X-COM: Terror From the Deep console opening/button pressing noise all the time in rather low budget sci-fis and even some of the higher ones. Mainly tv stuff, but it puts a smile on my face.

I keep hearing the water drip noises from Quake in unexpected places. They're fairly distinctive. Drip, drip....DRIPdripdrip..drip. You know the ones. Yeah, those.

The music from C&C has always found its way into popular media.

For example, Police Camera Action used pretty much the entire original C&C a few years ago and Top Gear's Brit-Race 24hour Special used tracks from C&C3 alongside the Stardust soundtrack - Using the C&C3 title menu music when the fog set in was almost as inspired as using Septimus's theme when The Stig started kicking ass and spreading the word about Larsons Biscuits!

In terms of audio re-use, I'm always amused when I hear the Doom door noise and the Magic Carpet boost "swoosh" on tv programs. I know, in my heart of hearts that they're from some licensed library of effects, but I'll always know them as from games - they've become sort of Wilhelm screams for my friends and I.

I’ve always wondered if the voice actors for TF2 ever play the game. I know if I were, say, the guy who voiced the Scout, I would never do anything but completely freak people out by going online and spouting gibberish and random profanity into the mic. “What the hell button do I press to get him to say that?!”

I'd imagine that'd be a lot less fulfilling if you voice the pyro. Even if you unmuffled yourself, no one would believe you until after "Meet the Pyro."

My money says that pyro is a gal, by the way.

Too true. We tend to get very uncomfortable when someone uses the C-Word, but won’t bat an eye at “Wanker” and the like.

Oh God yes, I'll never understand that! I used the word once and this guy TOTALLY freaked out on me. And nevermind "wanker", why is it "dick" is a perfectly acceptable word, but the "c-word" not. Double standard? :)

As far as reusing sounds go, in TF2, the item respawn noise, the healing noise and the sound for picking up ammo are all callbacks to TFC.

“why did you replace ‘for’ with ‘4′?”

I assumed it was because it’s 4 player (the co opy part anyway) with the 4 survivors.

I think you might be right. Not only a ridiculously, awful titling convention, it actually means something.. you just made me cry..
