Shift 2: Shiftier

By John Walker on March 10th, 2008 at 11:30 am.

Remember that time we wrote about Armor Games’ Shift? That was good times. We still talked back then. Remember? Before we had that fight. Look, I’m not saying we should get back together, or even that you should forgive us for… well, you remember. But I just wanted to tell you about Shift 2.

Sigh, you always see things in black and white.

The short platform/puzzler has taken a nice step forward, adding in a some new (literal) twists to the overall format – flipping between black and white dimensions. Now, using the arrow icons, you can rotate the screen in 90 degree increments, as well as deleting new shadowy blocks with the magic of lightbulbs. Anyhow, it’s even better than last time, plays in a Flash window, and now comes with a built-in level editor. Play.

Games like this are good in that they encourage thinking in new ways, though as thinking in old ways gives me enough problems they tend to result in me giving up half way through with a head ache and a touch of exstiential angst.

Nice try, but don’t go using someone else’s deeds to try and get us back together !

Had to replay most of the game all over again because the final proper level has a trap where you can’t escape from nor can you kill yourself in.

Otherwise a rather lovely way to spend a tad of time.

Minus many points for lack of restart level button plus levels that you can get stuck on.

This isn’t nearly as entertaining as it could be. The puzzles are a lot of guess work. You can’t tell what they keys and light bulbs will do so it becomes the old die and retry gameplay. Frankly I couldn’t find the patience to complete it. The first one was interesting but too easy, this one is just annoying.

you do NOT have to play through the rest of the game again at that trap!
i can’t remember exactly what happened now; wasn’t there a message you could uncover that told you how to restart the level?

This is like the game Crush on the PSP, which is also pretty good.
