Yeah. Having now seen the screenshots, it looks ultra-generic. Still, it's got another year of development yet. Assuming they hit their target.

Wasn't HL2 set in a fictional Eastern European location? So it would make sense for this to look a bit similar too wouldn't it?

Yay, More cynicism!

Cause that's what we need more of, right now. And always.

:P

Can't we talk about a new game without any pre-judgements consigning it to 'dervitive'? OH NOES! LOOK OUT A *PC* GAME! That's so been done before!

As a community, we can do better.

//end semi-impassioned rant.

Should they? I'm not so sure, obviously for major landmarks or special buildings they should build art assets intended for a specific job... But I fail to see why perfectly usable assets can't be re-used on other games. What I'd love to see is a graphics engine with a large library of existing building designs (etc etc) that can be easily modified or reworked, or simply plugged into a city scene (Or whatever) so you at least have mock up buildings that look alright prior to refining what you have.

Hmm, got a bit rambly there.

Oh yeah, and kudos to the eastern europeans if they use (Admittedly advantageous) currency exchange rates to actually take some design risks and do something unusual or different. Far too often I see the amount of money it takes to make a game being used as an excuse for churning out yet another samey blockbuster and it makes me a sad panda.

Ranting again... Quiet Larington.

Please let this be good, despite the paint-by-numbers dystopia. I love me some Ukrainian RPFPS goodness, I do.

Eastern europe is rapidly becoming a bastion of PC gaming. These games kind of remind of what PC games used to be around the turn of the century. They try out more weird ideas, mix up genres and generally don't abide by many conventions of game development established over the past few years.

These conventions make for more polished game experiences, better interfaces etc.. but also take a bit of soul out of the games.
