Having played the game in my younger days (including the Rogue Trader book) and then as I got older switched to the computer games (Easier to hide when girls come round), I have had just about every release of any GW game, on a PC, wit that in mind, let me throw in my 5p worth of opinion. The DOW series has by far been the best and most profitable of all the licences and when I saw that they would be jazzing it up with the CoH engine I rushed to download the CoH demo to get a “feel” of what I could expect, as an engine I was impressed and salivated at the thought of seeing all my favourite units blowing each other and the scenery up into little bits, now for the beef……I do honestly think that we will only get 3 races in the initial launch and I think they will do what they did in at the end of WA, by that I mean the last level will include the Tyranids, at the end of the day they are making a sequel and modernising the game to make money in a saturated market, not to please the fans, and as it has been said by many people that the ‘nids would sell an expansion themselves, thisl I believe will be the case. To be honest the first races would naturally be Marines, Orks and Chaos and to keep us busy I think they will include some kind of skills/experience tree along with each race having two or three Chapters/Clans/Powers. I do hope I am a little wrong in regards to quantity of races but lets not get carried away, with >2million units of DOW sold, at around £30 each they are most likely gonna string us along with it for a few years.

Here’s to Spring 09!!!! Just in time for my uni holidays :)

HOWEVER
according to the background lore, one can speculate that the imperium of mankind will one day be rejoined by the emperor, all the primarchs, the saints, and all the dead imperial worriors (alongside the still living ones) to smite all the chaos fuckers, xenos and other assorted scum in the final war, in which they conclude with a massive tea party and many many bouncy castles just for the hell of it :P

hey it would be hilarious if that was included in the offical 40k background lore xD

as for what races they’re going to include, i dont think tyranids are going to make it for two reasons: 1) they dont fit the new style of gameplay which is centered on characters and squads (mainly because when they attack, they attack in the billions) and 2) it could be said by many starcraft fans that dow2 would be ripping it off with space marines (terrans), eldar (protos) and tyranids (zerg).
This (if true) could also mean that the developers wouldnt include the eldar in the initial release, but maybe as an expansion pack….why they would do this is a different matter because the eldar are a bunch of fags who are supposed to have the best tech in the galaxy bar the necrons and yet go to war in skin tight plastic and die, which is stupid considering their race is supposed to be all but extinct.

I do like the idea of including special units within each army though such as different chapters for the marines, but hopefully not the up-their-own-arses-ultramarines….they truly suck, but different regiments for the IG would be cool.

My money is on: Marines,Orkz,IG and Chaos

I used to like the Dark Eldar, they’re so much more subtle than Chaos.

And less ghey then High Space Elves.

Although I’ll concede Space whoars (whyches whatever) are the most pathetic things ever but dark matter energy beams are awesome.

My best bet would be Space Marines, Eldar, Orkz and Tyranids. Chaos were essentially Space Marines with twitching and that sent a shiver down my spine. Also the tactics were way too familiar. If they’d use the setup I described at the top, they’d use four more or less distinct races.

Codex: Chaos Daemons will be released soon so that may prompt Relic to include Chaos as a side which isn’t Space Marines with spikes.

Fourth side will clearly be Harlequins.

The 2 chapters are generally thought to be there just to allow people the freedom to create their own first founding chapters and back story.
It’d be nice to have some more stuff filled in by GW though.

Yeah I was much intrigued by the 2 missing chapters when reading about the 20 original chapters on that wiki (I’m not really that indoctrinated into GW stuff though still have some blood angels and imperial guard stuff in a box somewhere), and something about how a chaos vision talked about one of these two primarchs being destined for greatness but having his bio pod deliberately damaged. Curious indeed. Though by the sounds of it, believing a choas dream is unwise in the extreme.

I want to see Death Korps of Krieg guard. Well, them or Catachan’s.
A decent marine chapter wouldn’t hurt either, get some Salamander’s or Black Dragons as opposed to the boring BR’s.

And I want to see Slaanesh in a game damnit, if WAR won’t deliver, DoW had better.
I’d love to finally see the Skitarii really, they’re mentioned pretty often but there’s pretty much no information about them.

Imperium might not be completely fucked anyway, there’s still a few primarchs MIA, and that “unknown” chapter.
