All sounds a bit dubious, eh? Well that’s what Americano-Ukrainian developers Vogster Entertainment have announced. They’re playing up the politics and commerce angle however, which is a very good sign. Not for Vogster the MMO press-release that basically gives the nod to more goblin-bashing.
“Players will take part in the political, economical and social life of a big city. They will run businesses, engage in commerce, and suffer the consequences of confrontations with criminal groups and shadowy law enforcement figures. Powerful AI will support the constantly changing atmosphere of the streets and enable players to feel the live pulse of the Megapolis.”
The game apparently features an “advanced social system” which will presumably run something like the standings system in Eve Online, allowing players to sort out their clan and personal relations independent of the game structure. We should have more details about this ambitious free-to-play project in a couple of weeks.

“the crime MMO is the new fantasy MMO”
Love the tag, there. I’m pretty sure that every MMO has commerce and politics of some sort–it’s nice to see it being built into the core experience, though.
I also thought a “mega” metropolis was supposed to be called a “megalopolis.” Or maybe that’s the name of the city itself.
I would have my usual reservations about the crime genre, but…
Free, you say?
Ukrainian, you say?
Two magic words that warm my frozen, beef jerky heart.

If there was money involved I’d have reservations to air but… free? This is excellent.
It’s an experiment where gamers lose nothing at all if it fails, while if it succeeds the genre may be improved.

Ad supported?
If it’s like BF2142 and littered with Natwest Student Account and Bourne Slapremancy ads, I say BAH!

Wait, did they actually call it “Crimecraft” ? :D
Will this open the doors to more ~craft MMOs ?

@Yhancik
I imagine we’ll see a trademark case brought against them by Blizzard.

“-Craft” can be to MMOs what “Tycoon” is to Management games!

Lovecraft! Oh wait…
15/04/2008 at 10:45 Jochen Scheisse says:
World of Lovecraft won’t work. A game with that name and probably tentacles in the font art will probably draw lots of thirty something hentai fetishists, and the .2 patch will introduce the Great Race of Jig and schoolgirls.

And that… won’t work, you say?
15/04/2008 at 10:48 Jochen Scheisse says:
Well, it would at least be a very promising attempt to make me lose D20 sanity.

Damn, oh well, if anyone decides to make cthulhu MMO they’ll just have to be origional in the name.
