It was tough to get people to play at our LAN party this weekend. But in between COD4 and TF2 a few of us started playing. It only took about ten minutes to get everyone else playing.

We ended up going for about an hour and a half. Much more than the thirty minute minute limit we said we'd adhere to. Great change of pace in between shooters.

Digging the free Trackmania a lot although the speed of the game is pretty taxing. Also had to try it with shutter glasses seeing as Nvidia just released new stereo drivers and the game seems to have some stereoscopic compatibility. And the 3d effect was awesome. 75 liquid frames per second to each eyeball at 1280x720 8AF 4xAA ... sweet.

Burgerboy, Nadeo claims nothing here, I was trying to say that having something different, at that time, is what made us exist. And I have seen enough studios trying to make existing thing to know that it is a difficulty.

By the way, there was even the real toy before. And I have even never played to stunts, somebody showed it to me near the end of first release. I was player of Stunt Car Racer.

The game started with somebody else making a puzzle/racing mash up prototype at Nadeo. It is later it became a racing game. More people seemed to enjoy simple racing. Once they did, they was asking if it was possible to play multi etc. Yet, the game stayed unique thanks to track building.

and yes, MesstaNob, there are tons of players on the new TM at the moment. Only after two days, it is already in the top 10 of xfire, and the audience is still growing very fast.

Kinda playing it. My second time at Trackmania.
Well, I've still mixed feelings about the game. I understand where the game is going, it just don't touch me.

One thing for sure I appreciate the fact that can be played while smoking.

P.S. Am I the only one happy for the 3d glasses support? Now the only problem is finding a pair.

AND IT'S STILL GOOD. AND FREE IF YOU'RE POOR (OR PATHETIC).

I'm disappointed by the lack of discussion this article has started. Are people really "meh" about this, or just too busy playing it to talk?

While a great game, Nadeo can hardly claim to have come up with the concept.

Trackmania is just a remake of Stunts/4D Driving - a good one, but the only real addition is multiplayer.

I first heard of Trackmania at a LAN that had about 30-40 other people. While there was the usual games of Counter-Strike and UT2K4 being played (this was quite a few years ago), a few of us fired up Trackmania to have a bit of a mutliplayer bash while waiting for lunch. After a while, people started coming over and seeing what all the shouting and laughing was about, and by the end of the night just about everyone was playing. It was possibly the best LAN I've ever been to.

you quite sure about that?

TrackMania United features StarForce protection built into the executable to check the software's key, but does not install the driver. One video games review site gave TrackMania United a rating of 0 out of 10 because of the inclusion of StarForce.[3]

Although it originally included the system, on 29 June 2007 Valve Software announced that the version of TrackMania United distributed via the company's Steam digital distribution platform would no longer include StarForce.[4]

@Robin - no, there's no Starforce in the new and upcoming Trackmania products. In the U.S., they dropped it with TrackMania United.
