GRID: Some Drifter Coming Through Town

By John Walker on April 25th, 2008 at 9:04 pm.

So it turns out that GRID is just another MarioKart clone. Sigh!

You can carpool with us any day, Gametrailers.

Ho ho, only joking Codies. Drift is to driving games as double-jumping is to platform games: ESSENTIAL. They do seem to be taking it very seriously. I don’t even care about driving games, and I find myself increasingly excited about getting to play this. And not just because they played a nice, swelling QOTSA riff throughout.

I was excited about this game, but with every new trailer released its getting more and more “normal” and it has too much Need For Speed in the blood veins.

I hope a decent racing sim is going to be released for PC anytime.

Just play the existing racing simulators – that’s what everyone else is doing. This was never going to be anything but a derivative of the need for speed style of gaming. It’s Codemasters after all, they stopped doing amalgamation’s of simulation and arcade after Colin McRae and Toca’s second iterations. Doesn’t interest me, it’s a pretty game but no doubt it’ll be skin deep.

They mean “Powerslide”, surely? Bit of a jump from post-apocalyptic sci-fi mud racing to NFS-style street racing, but I can dig it.

I’m sure that QOTSA track is on every codies video almost.

What’s the name of that QOTSA Track?

  7. Janek says:

It’s an almost-unrecognisable remix of No One Knows.

But yes as people have said it’s looking awfully NFS. Albeit really damned pretty.

It’s the UNKLE remix of “No one knows”.

Double jumping in platform games is generally completely superfluous.

I’m reading more negatives than positives about GRiD (hnngg) to be honest… certainly note enough to convince me it’s any more than just very pretty.

Awaiting reviews and opinions from actual gamers.

I was somewhat surprised they’d use a track with a video as provocative as this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbWMrv6fht0

Probably telling that I watched this trailer for the riff rather than the other content. Drifting, theres really competitions for that?

  13. Pod says:

I like it when my cars strafe.
I just wish my tanks could do that in games.

  14. ysbreker says:

That’s not Qotsa. It’s U.N.K.L.E. Well ok it’s a remix of No one knows by U.N.K.L.E. It even says so in the credits! :)

    Great song by the way

Cian: I doubt that’s the real video though.

I really REALLY hope Codemasters have fixed their driving mechanics for this game.
