ARROWED!

By John Walker on June 4th, 2008 at 10:23 pm.

In the best possible taste.

I love it when a videogame is exactly what confused old politicians think videogames are. As Kieron merrily tells me what he’s been up to in the torturing game he’s playing, I’ve been firing arrows at people jumping off buildings.

By Japanese dev Ikiki, Tobioriya is a game of, well, shooting people apparently committing suicide with a bow. It’s fun too! Discovered by the handsome folk of TIGSource, you can download it from this site – it’s the second one down from the top.

Then show your Mail-reading gran.

Reminds of a NES game where you steer a sheep, shooting down wolves in parachutes.

I think it’s the music that makes it.

    I don’t get any music.

But still, great fun. And its a nice thing to have been doing for 35 minutes when someone finally looks over your shoulder.

It made me want to post a link to the attack of the killer swarm but the experimental game play website seems to have run out of ££s.

Someone put some money in the meter goddamit.

Hmm, assuming the number at the bottom of the start screen is the high score, I’m at 42 at the moment. This is ridiculous and I should be going to bed but I have a feeling this will keep me up for a while longer than I intended.

I love this, and yes, it reminded me of Attack of the Swarm, which was even more sadistic, and with better music! :)

  15. 60. How high does it go?

    report

  16. answer: 72. I didnt miss anyone and the last 7 seconds of the game no one jumped. I think i cleared out the whole office! But not as good as this guy: http://www.geekologie.com/2008/06/this_is_what_happens.php

    I love Ikiki’s games.

    Especially Hakaiman and Nikujin .

There’s a couple of insane Nikujin speedruns on youtube. A bit like the platforming of the Ubisoft Prince of Persias, except without the forgiving rewind function, and far eye-stabbingly harder.

That was enjoyable. I feel like I did them a favour. In a way.

  19. 60. Not too bad, if the total is 72. Better than my friends’ efforts – the closest they can get to it is 42 :D

  21. Razor says:

This does beg the question: If person suicide jumps off a building of a height that guarantees that they will die (like 40 stories, let’s say), and another person shoots them, killing them before they hit the ground, did that person commit murder? I mean, they were going to die anyway…

    Yep, I dared to ask.

    report

  22. fluffy bunny says:

In principle, yes, because we’re all guaranteed to die some time or another.

    report

  23. whoops. I didnt see it measures accuracy too. I just made a perfict run and got 76. That must be the highest possible score.

    @Inglorion

You’re referring to Pooyan, and yeah, the mechanics are very similar. :]
