@Duncan
I agree with your comments re: algorithmic / procedural storyline, however word count limits forced me to cut it from my review. It was, however, factored into the score for the storyline section.

The difficulty you mentioned was also factored into the score in the puzzle section, though again I didn't elaborate due to space constraints.

Finally, I did indeed review "Limbo of the Misguided," however the acronym is (somewhat counter-intuitively) "LoL" or perhaps "lol." You can clearly see this in both the link to the game and in the title bar. -SPOILER- This is part of the deviously simple puzzle I mentioned in my review.

Thanks for you comments, I hold myself to the highest journalistic standards and feedback is always welcome.

Indagator's review patently misses the fact that LoM has algorithmic / procedural storyline, with a different level progression each time you play! This alone should push LoM into A++ for storyline.

Controls should also get a mention, in that if you click one of the arrows, then move your mouse cursor off the arrow before releasing the button, Biggs will continue to move in that direction and the game will play itself! This amazing attention to interface detail makes the game accessible to players of all skill levels - achieving that holy grail of truly "adaptive" difficulty. This should be enough to push the final score from B+ to A-, at least!

That is, indeed, if Indagator was reviewing LoM, and not LoL. I'm getting fairly confused right about now what with all this meta-meta-shenanigans.

I admit the game was great! nice job :) He deserves a medal.

Seriously Kieron you made me think a winner had been decided already lol! The best part of 15 minutes of my photoshopping would have been wasted ;)

Saying that '[something] wins' is a popular colloquialism on the interwebs and does not necessarily entail a logical connection with anything concrete that might be won, such as a competition.

Review:

Storyline: A-
I thought the storyline in LoL was fantastic. Most games only involve either fate OR destiny, but LoL has both. And they're fighting each other! My only gripe is that we don't get to see much of it unveiled in this chapter. Hopefully more is revealed in the inevitable sequel.

Graphics: B+
The graphics on the first level are nothing special, but as soon as you move off, wow! The attention to detail that went into creating the backgrounds is astonishing. I especially like how varied the levels are, it's almost as if there are many different games wrapped into the whole. Character animation is also very good, with Biggs moving smoothly back and forth across the screen.

Puzzles: A+
Honestly, the puzzles are the best part of this game. Most adventure games hit you over the head with a puzzle. LoL goes a different route, with its main puzzle being so subtle and deviously simple that you'd almost swear it wasn't there.

Sounds: C-
The only thing bringing down an otherwise excellent game. Sound effects are pretty minimal, and not in a good way. With all the myriad sound effects out there, you almost wish the developer had just "appropriated" some sound effects and put them in. Here's hoping the community will get its act together and release a mod for it, pronto.

Final Verdict: B+

Here's my theory, as Kieron accidentally declares the winner of my compo - the shit. I agree that Malph's flash doodah is of ultimate magnificence, and is getting a prize. However, since it was a screenshot compo, the best screenshot will still win. I'll decide on Monday.
