The Past Three Months

Okay, I’m going to be open with you and say that this post is a little bit about information gathering, rather than simply being a fun exercise. Nevertheless it would be interesting and useful if you guys would tell me what games you’ve played for more than a couple of hours in the last three months. Don’t bother including mini-games, free indie stuff that we’ve posted on here unless you’ve played it obsessively for many hours.

I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours. I’m going to include non-PC stuff too. And remember: it was my job to play some of this stuff.

The Rossignol tri-month game spread, roughly in order of how much I’ve played the game:

Eve Online
Age Of Conan
Team Fortress 2
Stronghold Crusader Extreme (Don’t agree with Kieron, thought it was pretty horrible.)
Spore Creature Creator (Not exactly a game, I know.)
GTA IV
Wings Of Honour: Battles Of The Red Baron (Actually not bad)
Crazy Machines 2
Oblivion
GRID
Stalker
Rock Band
Air Rivals (Still meaning to post about that. Kind of an interesting PvP MMO.)
Fallen Empires: Legions Beta

I’ve probably missed something significant, but that’s the basic line up.

You?

  1. Pod says:

    Team Fortress 2
    Jagged Alliance 2
    Spore: CC
    World in Conflict
Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360)
    Rise of Nations

recently finished Pyschonauts and Beyond Good< & Evil.

If it’s 3 months ago then I was at the end of my Anno 1701 kick.

Just bought, and likely to spend ages on: Europa Universalis 3

I would have played lots of The Guild 2 but it’s buggy as hell.

  2. Mike says:

Team Fortress 2 – certainly more than 2 hrs!!!
    Grid

Been, doing alot of other stuff this month :)

  3. Adam says:

    Three months… hrmmm…

In something vaguely approaching a most-to-least recently list:

    System Shock
    HL2 Ep1 Ep2
    Half-Life 1
    Team Fortress 2
    Portal
    Halo 3
    Eve Online
    Dwarf Fortress
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness
    Baldur’s Gate 2
    Warcraft 3 (TFT campaign)
Might and Magic: World of Xeen (IV and V)
    Chrono Trigger
    Wasteland
    Ultima 4

    Online games:

    PoxNora
    Nexus War
    Goal Line Blitz

  4. Aankhen says:

From least played to most played:

Obulis (only the brief demo, unfortunately)
Galactic Civilizations II (fun, but once I got stuck in an all Labs rut I didn’t feel like replaying it till I get Twilight of the Arnor)
Transport Tycoon Deluxe (with TTDPatch of course)
Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri (just one full game though)
Metal Gear Solid (just started playing it last week)
    DotA

I’ve been playing DotA since last August. The reason? I have all these other great games waiting for me, but my desktop’s been in storage since last June. :-( Right now I’m on a laptop with integrated graphics… Oh well, just a couple more weeks before I get to unpack it.

I also just noticed that del is allowed in the comments field but ins isn’t. Weird, that.

  5. Monchberter says:

    TF2: Combat Medic Edition
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
    Crysis
    HL2.2
Attack of the Killer Swarm (indie)
    Trials 2 2nd Edition
    Audiosurf
    GTA San Andreas (again)
    Ouendan 2
    Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
    Scrabble DS!

  6. F'yth says:

    WoW
    Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2

    last 3 months? lots of

    stalker
    neverwinter nights
    SOASE
    oblivion
    mass effect
CoD4 MP (mostly for work, believe it or not)
spent a few hours on tf2, but that was only the one session.

spent most of my game time the last month playing old N64 stuff though.

the last few days has been metal gear solid 2 and armoured core, though.

  8. Thoms says:

    Lord of the Rings Online
    TrackMania
    Team Fortress 2
    Puzzle Quest
    Bioshock

  9. malkav11 says:

Three months? jeez, I can’t recall that far back.

But in no particular order, some things that I’m sure I’ve played:
Mass Effect (PC) (preordered, got it that weekend, beat it this past Sunday)
    Sins of a Solar Empire
The World Ends With You (so awesome)
Phoenix Wright 3 (went back to it since it’s pretty inoffensive as a timekiller at work, this also encourages me not to use hints – they’re blocked on my work computer)
Earth Defense Force 2017. (Stupid fun in co-op.)
    Grand Theft Auto IV
Assassin’s Creed (PC) (Flawed, but a lot of fun. Beat it. Loved the story.)
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men (PC) (Not as bad as it’s made out to be, though it can be frustrating.)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC) (Went back in order to do the main quest, though I added some mods and fucked around a bit on other stuff, too. Then I just barely started Shivering Isles.)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (the only PSP game I’ve played recently)
Sam and Max: Season 2 (episode 5…4 also if in the right time frame.)
    Crackdown (beat. so awesome.)
    Eternal Sonata (crazy, crazy game)
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (surprisingly good, but still not *great*)
The Simpsons Game (360) (Very funny, but I didn’t go completionist – some of the levels I never want to go back to, gameplaywise.)
Penny Arcade Adventures (360) (Much fun.)
Saints Row (No GTA IV, that’s for sure, but fun.)
Samurai Warriors 2 (360) (Deeper than it’s made out to be.)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PC) (I didn’t have IV, but wanted to play GTA and I’d never gotten that far on this one.)
Conan (360) (Kind of a God of War ripoff, but entertainingly dismemberment-heavy nonetheless.)
Stuntman: Ignition (360) (Really fucking hard.)
    Baroque (PS2) (Trippy roguelike.)
Shiren the Wanderer (DS) (Just the one run so far, but I got into the 20s.)
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (360) (Coop, again.)
Enchanter (yes, the old Infocom game – I got a Palm and have been running the excellent Z-machine interpreter CellarDoor. Another work time-killer.)
    ForumWarz (so silly)

The list looks a bit 360 heavy but I promise that I do really tend to game more on my PC – it’s just that I only got my 360 back in February and so experienced a period of obsession with it, much like I do with any new device.

    @Malkav11:

Jesus. Where do you find the time?

  11. DuBBle says:

These months I have been mostly playing:

    GRID
    Europa Universalis: Rome
    TF2
    CS:S
    Mass Effect
    Red Orchestra
    Final Fantasy X
Dragon Quest – Journey of the Cursed King
    Assassin’s Creed
    Dyson
the game where you’re a bear with an umbrella and you’re acting anti-socially
    Nanosmiles
Digital Devil Saga (utter tripe, cross street to avoid)
Play The News (search for it, it’s from the guys who made Peacemaker and its brilliant)
Dominate Game (online risk, does not involve leather)

  12. malkav11 says:

I suspect I’ve probably played for less total hours than some of the other people – I’ve gone significant chunks of this month without playing anything much, for example – but I skip around between games a lot more. Some of those games I only put in the couple of hours that was cited as a minimum. I’ve only beaten a few of them.

I’m also single, and until a month ago I was only working 16 hours a week.

  13. mist says:

    Titan Quest – Immortal Throne
    TF2
    FlatOut 2
    Trackmania Nations Forever

Real life has been stealing all of my time :(

  14. Kadayi says:

    In no particular order

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R
    TF2
    Mass Effect
    The Witcher
    Fallout
    GTA 3
    GTA Vice City
    GTA San Andreas
    Baldurs gate 2
    Sims 2
    Sam & Max Season 1
    Precipice of Darkness
    Audiosurf

  16. WaveyRaven says:

    Mr Driller DS
    GTA Vice City
    Baldur’s Gate
    Slitherlink DS
    Nurikabe DS
Trackmania Nations Forever (the free one)
    Medieval Total War
    Rise of Legends
    Deus Ex
    Trackmania
    Wii Sports

My PC is 5 years old, so newer games are off the menu.

  17. Orpheon says:

    Tf2
    Ninja Gaiden 2
    GTA IV

:( more console than PC. but I consistently play more Tf2 so…

  18. I’ve played (all on PC):

    GRID
    Mass Effect
    Sam & Max Season 1
Baldur’s Gate (with tutu mod) until it stopped working due to a bug with modern nvidia cards
    Sins of a Solar Empire
    GalCiv2, Altarian Prophecy
    Gumboy Tournament
    Trackmania United Forever
    Many Faces of Go
    Fritz 10
    Audiosurf
Unreal Tournament 3 (and no TF2? crikey I have such bad taste!)

Interestingly, I thought I didn’t have much time for games due to having a family, but it looks like my list is longer than a number of people here…

  19. Dolphan says:

The Football Manager Live Beta (pretty much every day)
Uefa Euro 2008 (with little brother)
    World in Conflict
    LOTRO
    WoW (trying it out)
Lost Odyssey (just a few hours in, but it’s becoming surprisingly compelling)
    Guitar Hero 3

  20. Calabi says:

    Grid
    TF2
    Spore Creature Creator

  21. Feet says:

    In no particular order.

    Civ 4 BTS
    TF2
    PES 2008 (co-op Master League 360)
    Beyond Good and Evil
PST (with WIDESCREEN mod, though I only played for 3 hours before being distracted by shiny things)

  22. K says:

Only own a PC, I buy very few games. But bought almost every Looking Glass, Troika and Black Isle game. Why does everybody close to me have to go away? :(

    But, anyway:
-Mass Effect (I’m not even sure I’m enjoying it yet. The difficulty’s on the highest settings, but it’s still only challenging when the auto-cover sticks me to a wall and I can’t get off it quick enough before somebody runs at me with a shotgun, or when a cutscene ends to place me facing away from three insta-kill snipers, and I have to reload over and over, having to watch the cutscene over and over, until I finally manage to run in crazy zig-zag patterns and avoid being shot in the back. My team mates love to valiantly sacrifice themselves too. /moooan).
    -Spore Creature Creator (trial)

  23. Knijn says:

    PC:
    Jade Empire
    Sins of a Solar Empire
    Mount & Blade
    Trials 2
    Audiosurf
    Vampire: Bloodlines
    Dwarf Fortress
    GRID

    DS:
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
    Advance Wars: Dark Conflict

  24. Man Raised By Puffins says:

Team Fortress 2: I am the Übermensch! Edition
    GTA4
    Mass Effect (360)
    Audiosurf
    Hotel Dusk
    Spore Creature Creator (trial)
    Rez
Call of Duty 4 (360 multiplayer)
    Penny Arcade Adventures
    Rock Band

A fair bit of 360 stuff there, but Team Fortress 2 play dwarfs the lot of them.

  25. ape says:

    Beyond Good and Evil
    God Hand
    Earthbound
Thief: Deadly Shadows (Didn’t really play it obsessively, just had a go at it for the Shalebridge Cradle, too bad the rest of it is quite bland)
    Galactic Civ 2
    Civ IV
    Spore Creature Creator
    STALKER

  26. cHeal says:

    NOLF2
    Sim City 4
    Europa Universalis 3

  27. Biscuitry says:

I tend to only stick with a few games at a time, so, in order of how much I’ve played them:

    EVE Online
    HL2: Garry’s Mod
    Space Empires V
    Team Fortress 2
    Rock Band

Everything else clocks in under two hours.

  28. yegwa says:

    Metal gear solid 4,
Half life 2 episode 1 (quite late on this one),
    Trackmania nations forever,
    Planescape torment

  29. Dan Milburn says:

    Civ 4
    Team Fortress 2
    Trials 2
Have bought Mass Effect but only played it for about half an hour so far.

    Team Fortress 2
    Call of Duty 2

  33. CitizenErazed says:

Right, let’s think. In no particular order:

    EVE
    Sins Of A Solar Empire
    C&C 3: Kane’s Wrath
    Football Manager
    Medieval II
Company of Heroes (both vanilla and opposing fronts)
    Civilization 4
Alpha Centauri (mostly Alien Crossfire, a game or two of vanilla)
Black & White 2 (I keep meaning to actually finish it)
GRAW 2 (came free with my vidcard)
Supreme Commander (played one level, absolutely hated it. It has NO HEART.)
    HL2
    Unreal Tournament 3
    Trials 2
    Trackmania NF

    and on 360…
    Sega Rally
    Stuntman: Ignition
    Guitar Hero III
    Skate
    Bioshock
    Sega Superstars Tennis

    Think that’s everything.

  34. Gloinn says:

    1. Team Fortress 2

  35. sbs says:

    Half-Life 2 Episodes
    Deus Ex – Invisible War
    Metal Gear Solid 2
    GTA
    Fallout
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the rain-slick Precipice of Darkness(Finished it 3 times, the combat is just too much fun)
Loads of Quake 3 and Quake Live beta

  36. Mr Peckerston says:

Roughly in order of how long I’ve played them:

    Team Fortress 2 (PC)
    Shiren the Wanderer (DS)

    Ibara (ARC)

    Trouble Witches (PC)
    Bomberman Online (PC)
    Vacant Ark (PC)
    God Hand (PS2)
    Pochi & Nyaa (PS2)

So 8 PC games, only 2 of which you guys would ever consider covering.

edit: woah, 2 other people listed Shiren too!

  37. Tom Camfield says:

    Team Fortress 2
    Call of Duty 4
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Portal
    Pro Evo

All on PS2 and 3, neither of which I own, neither do I own a PC but I read the site anyway (a smiley face – ed)

    Culpa Innata
On the rain slick ledge of long and difficult game names.

  42. matte_k says:

    KotoR

  45. TF2
STALKER (with the Oblivion Lost mod on)
    CoD4
    GTA: SA
Grim Fandango (Dug it out for a new run-through)
    HL2 and eps
Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 (Play through these regularly and often)
Hammer (not really a game, but I’ve sunk more time into the Source level design tools than anything else this year)

  46. roBurky says:

    Eve Online
    Mount&Blade
    Oblivion
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (mostly the Fall from Heaven II mod)
    The Sims 2
    City of Villains

    Quake 4
    Quake II
    Viva Pinata

I recently bought all these games from an ultra-cheap shop in Plymouth. Most are XBox 360, since I just bought one of those, but I prefer TF2 on PC for its better server chooser, improved graphics etc.

    Roughly in order:

Natural Selection (RTS/FPS mod for HL)
Advance Wars: Dark Conflict (for the DS)
    Team Fortress 2
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (for the DS)
    Empires (RTS/FPS mod for HL2)
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (for the DS)
Super Puzzle Fighter (for the GBA)
Bioshock (had been waiting for a PC upgrade to play this)
    Super Puzzle Fighter (on XBL)
    Half-Life 2: Episode 2 (ditto)

Not to mention games in test at work that I’m not allowed to talk about (then again I’m not really ‘playing’ them).

P.S. Clearly if those are the only games Jim has played for more than 2 hours in the last 3 months, the reviewing system in this industry is flawed (almost all games taking more than 2 hours to complete from start to finish – even if using a roadrunner game guide).

  50. MarvintheParanoidAndroid says:

    In order of obsession:
    1. Dystopia (Yay cyberpunk, I’m so addicted)
    2. Team Fortress 2 (Yay pyros)
    3. The World Ends With You (Yay emos and silly hair, not sure it’s been out 3 months but I’ve been playing it to get 100% for long enough that it must qualify for this list)

There’s tonnes of other stuff that I’ve played briefly or not all the way through, but those 3 are probably what I’ve spent the vast majority of my gaming time on recently.
