The Past Three Months

Okay, I’m going to be open with you and say that this post is a little bit about information gathering, rather than simply being a fun exercise. Nevertheless it would be interesting and useful if you guys would tell me what games you’ve played for more than a couple of hours in the last three months. Don’t bother including mini-games, free indie stuff that we’ve posted on here unless you’ve played it obsessively for many hours.

I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours. I’m going to include non-PC stuff too. And remember: it was my job to play some of this stuff.

The Rossignol tri-month game spread, roughly in order of how much I’ve played the game:

Eve Online
Age Of Conan
Team Fortress 2
Stronghold Crusader Extreme (Don’t agree with Kieron, thought it was pretty horrible.)
Spore Creature Creator (Not exactly a game, I know.)
GTA IV
Wings Of Honour: Battles Of The Red Baron (Actually not bad)
Crazy Machines 2
Oblivion
GRID
Stalker
Rock Band
Air Rivals (Still meaning to post about that. Kind of an interesting PvP MMO.)
Fallen Empires: Legions Beta

I’ve probably missed something significant, but that’s the basic line up.

You?

    Metal Gear Solid 2
    Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
    Final Fantasy Tactics A2
    FFXII
    No One Lives Forever
    The Witcher
    Bioshock

  2. Mattress says:

    TF2 (only recently)
Football Manager 2008 (guilty pleasure – I must find something to do with my empty life)
    GTAIV
    Half Life 2 (replayed)
Deus Ex: IW (replay – it’s still shit)
Planescape: Torment (Cherry popped – or well, I finally finished it. Was exhilarating)
Call of Duty 4 (not online)
Peggle (when I’m supposed to work)

  3. Fat Zombie says:

    Hmmm. Let’s see:

    Oblivion (most recently)
    Team Fortress 2 (Lots, obviously)
    Red Orchestra
    F.E.A.R
    SWAT 4 (And expansion)
    Spore Creature Creator
UT2004 (In particular, awesome mod Gunreal)
    World in Conflict

And in terms of consoles, a friend recently got a 360. I spent much time shamelessly hogging it, playing:

    GTA IV
    Gears of War
    Halo 3

    So, yeah. There ye go.

  4. Cargo Cult says:

    MINERVA: Out of Time. :-P

(The beginnings thereof, anyway. Which mostly look like the inside of Photoshop or Hammer…)

  5. zima says:

    Diablo2
Portal (well, than one in March…but close enough, I think, to include it especially since last year is basically still one big Diablo fest, except for said Portal, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 in January, and HL2 a year ago)

  6. Subsonic says:

Only the last three months? I don’t know where some of you guys find the time!

    Mass Effect PC

  8. SirNuke says:

    The Big Three
    TF2
    Civ4
    HL2 Series

    Also:
Beyond Good & Evil (Probably the best $9 I’ve spent on a game)
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (Either I’ve gotten really bad at the game, or it’s a lot harder than Vegas 1)
    Sam & Max Season 2
Grim Fandango (Great Laptop Game or Greatest Laptop Game Ever?)
    Call of Duty 2
Galactic Civilizations II (Probably won’t really get back into this until I get sick of Civ4)
Prey (Fun the first time I ran through it, got bored of it quickly this time though. Can’t complain too much for $5)

I’m going to make a run out to Best Buy today and finally pick up Beyond the Sword, so I’ll probably be stuck to that for a while.

    Guitar Hero III
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (all 4 games, including Apollo Justice)
    Everyday Shooter
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
    Puzzle Quest

…crap, that’s more than I thought. And I’m sure I’ve missed loads, too.

  12. Muzman says:

    Stalker (AMK mod)
    Stalker (aliVe mod)
Stalker (regular. Seemed informative to split them up. Or wanky. Take your pick)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Battlefield 1942 (reinstalled it for old time’s sake just recently)
    Bioshock
    Crysis (demo)
    Grand Theft Auto 3
Hitman : Codename 47 (these last two are my ‘15 minutes of mayhem’ games)
Maybe COD4 DM around at a mates place just squeaks in.

    TF2
    Spore Creature Creator
Dawn of War (with all addons)
    Beyond Good and Evil
    Cortex Command
    COD4
    Dino Run

Hrm, not as much as I thought. Still, I am on the verge of an upgrade. Ask me again in a month or two and I’ll have an enormous list of brainless eye-candy FPSs.

EDIT: Oh actually I forgot I played AHL & Sven Coop HLSP for a few hours with my girlfriend!

  16. Flint says:

    Pokémon Diamond
    Psychonauts
    Resident Evil 4
    Sonic Rush Adventure
    World of Warcraft

Not that much, mainly because I bought a DS and got addicted to it.

  17. Dave says:

    Three months? Hm.

    TF2
    Fate
    Space Invaders Extreme (DS)

a little bit of Puzzle Quest

  18. Colthor says:

    Planescape: Torment
    Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
    Spore Creature Creator demo
The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
    Sonic Rush Adventure
    The World Ends With You

Several other games kicking around as-yet un- or barely-played. Installed and started playing the Depths of Peril demo this morning, and will probably play it more.

  19. hungSolo says:

    Beyond Good & Evil
    Thief: Deadly Shadows
    Deus Ex: Invisible War
    Galactic Civilizations II

… I’ve been on a tear finishing games I left unfinished previously.

  20. Yengwa says:

    TF2
    Mario Kart Wii
    Boom Blox
    GTA4

That’s really it. Not much lately.

  21. The_B says:

More than a couple of hours eh?

    Rock Band
    Team Fortress 2
    GTA 4
    C&C 3
    C&C 3 – Kane’s Wrath
Football Manager Live (I don’t even like the normal FM games, so that’s somewhat suprising.)

And three games during my work experience that I’m not sure if I can say, so I’ll be safe and not say them. Again, suprisngly low but I suppose for one thing I’ve not had a lot of time to dedicate to games themselves recently. I’ve played a lot of others, but only for very brief periods due to Uni work etc etc.

  22. Will Tomas says:

    TF2
    Oblivion
    Super Smash Bros. Brawl
    No More Heroes
    Wii Sports
    Mario Kart Wii
    Football Manager 2008

  23. obo says:

    PS2:
    Rock Band

    Madden 08

    Gamecube:
    Mario Kart: Double Dash

    PC:
    Team Fortress 2
    Spore Creature Creator
    WoW
    Mount&Blade
    Oblivion
    Morrowind
    Final Fantasy V (SNES emulator)
    Planescape: Torment
    Portal
    Bioshock

    DS:
    Mario Kart DS
    New Super Mario Bros.
    Final Fantasy III DS

    All platforms:
    Tetris (Worlds, DS, Lockjaw)

I bought Mass Effect PC but it’s sitting on the shelf – just not motivated right now for the time commitment. You said not to count small free games, but the collective works of Cactus would rank in the top 5.

It really warms my heart to see so many people listing Doom ports. TF2 just makes me want to play co-op Doom.

All of these are trumped by the tedious skill-grind of Calculus 270 on the TI-92.

I just realized in making this list, that I haven’t even played any of my PS2 games since moving 7 weeks ago. My home console gaming went from about 15-20 hours a week on the PS2 to 2 hours a month on the Gamecube, and I think that’s come to a stop too.

I sold my Wii six months ago last week and there never has been enough reason to justify the cost of a PS3 or 360 – there’s still so much stuff on PC and DS that’s sucking up all my free gaming time, especially the DS since my fiancée finally got one and we’ve been digging up stuff like Kart DS and NSMB and playing each other.

If someone had asked me 3 months ago if I’d give up console games for the DS and PC, I’d have punched them. I was going to get a 360 or PS3 with my tax rebate, but once I got it, I realized I just didn’t want either of them. Makes me feel old.

  24. internisus says:

Three months? Well, about three months ago I finally got a new PC, so I believe my list will reflect that. In no particular order:

    Call of Duty 4
    STALKER
    Mass Effect
    Half-Life 2, Episode 2
    Company of Heroes
    EVE Online
    Etrian Odyssey

Those are the games I’ve spent the most time with, I’d say. Since these games (except for EO) reflect the serious gaming I’ve done with my new PC, you may certainly read into the omissions. For example, Bioshock and TF2 are missing because I don’t like them. Yeah, you take that information.

  25. PetitPrince says:

    Tetris the Grand Master
    Tetris the Grand Master 2
    Enemy Territory Quake Wars
    Portal (+ the Flash Levels)
    Bangai-o Spirits
Tetris the Grand Master DS version

    (yes, I am a Tetris-obsessed gamer)

  26. wyrmsine says:

    TF2
Penny-Arcade : On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness
    EVE-Online
    Spore Creature Creator
    Audiosurf
    Nethack
    Droid Assault
    Democracy 2
The Incredible Hulk (Y’know, if only Marvel would realize that they could make an actual game worth their IP if they’d just take an engine like this and add more heroes…)
Alpha Centauri (for a few days…)
Bioshock (to look at the pretty levels)

Tried the Iron Man game for a day or two… more out of morbid curiosity to see how bad it could be.

  27. cctoide says:

Wow, these lists seem excellent for finding people with tastes similar to yours. I’ve already spotted quite a few of those people…

Here’s my list (all on the PC):
    EVE Online
    Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer
    Counter-Strike Source
Half-Life 2 and Episode One (both finished, working on Two next)
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars (brief stint since it’s sat on my shelf for ages)
    Team Fortress 2
    Audiosurf
    Garry’s Mod
    Test Drive Unlimited
Quake 4 (”unimaginative” shooters are great for killing time, and they’re great fun too!)
Painkiller (because of the shurikens and lightning, no less)
TES IV: Oblivion (my try at getting into RPGs… didn’t like it much)

Games I’m expecting to play soon: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (when I gather up the courage… hopefully before Clear Sky is released) and HL2: Episode Two (see above). Might give Crysis a second chance too.

  28. The Hammer says:

World of Warcraft (By far the biggest time-sink, and favourite of the lot)
Oblivion. (I love exploring forests in it. I get lost and immersed and)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (for a while, until it started to push me away with all the irritating bugs and design decisions)
    Team Fortress 2
    Dawn of War
    Instant Action: Fallen Empires
    Titan Quest
    Spore Creature Creator
    Civilization 4

  29. cyrenic says:

    Psychonauts
    Beyond Good and Evil
    Team Fortress 2
    Mount and Blade Demo
    Galactic Civilizations II Demo
    Company of Heroes
    Starcraft Brood War
World in Conflict (cuz I won that contest you ran :P)
    Rock Band
    Animal Crossing (Gamecube Version)

  30. FreezerBag says:

Well this was both harder and more fun than I expected. This is what I can remember in order of most time played to least:

    Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
    Armageddon Empires
    GTA IV
    Assassin’s Creed
    Spore Creature Creator
    Mount & Blade
    Ikariam
    Civilization IV
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness
    Sins of a Solar Empire
    Ultima Underworld
    Fallout
    No More Heroes
Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Weird Worlds – Return to Infinite Space
    Defcom
    FreeCol

And now my laptop GPU has exploded, so no more PC games for me! :(

  31. John P (Katsumoto) says:

Somehow I forgot Blade Runner off my list earlier. What an awesome point and click adventure game. And by Westwood of all people!

  32. FunkyBadger says:

    GTAIV (360)
    STALKER
The World Ends with You (DS)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA on DS)
    Gears of War
    RS:V2 (360)
    Total War: Rome
    Pathologic
    Lego Indiana Jones
    Angband

  33. Thiefsie says:

    MGS4
    GTA4
    Ninja Gaiden 2
    TF2
    Mass Effect
    Longest Journey

Yes I’ve been bit of a console whore lately!

  34. Team Fortress 2 (PC)
    GTA IV
    Mass Effect (360)
    Company of Heroes
    Call of Duty 4 (PC)
Dawn of War (and all expansions)

  35. Mechtroid says:

    TF2
Source SDK (I’m making a map)

  36. Putter says:

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
    Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Resident Evil 4 (sub-par port, but outstanding game makes up for it)
    Lego Star Wars
    Jade Empire

    All on PC.

I’ve been nursing a horrible case of what I believe to be tendonitis in my right wrist for a while (brought on by too many years of gaming). That’s why I’ve played almost entirely controller games, save STALKER, which I couldn’t wait to play any longer. It’s killing me. I’m still buying as many games as before (maybe more), but I’m not playing them. This is one of the worst ailments for a PC gamer…I wouldn’t wish it on my worst PC gaming enemy.

  37. James T says:

    Splinter Cell Chaos Theory represent!

Also, STALKER and TF2. Oh man, I just upgraded my PC, and it eats up STALKER and spits it out…

  38. Zhal says:

    Team Fortress 2 (PC)
    Mass Effect (360)
    GTA IV (360)
    Trackmania Nations Forever (PC)

  39. Syntaxus says:

    TF2
Icewind Dale 1/2, Baldur’s Gate 1 some. Aiming for a full BG1 -> BG2+ expack campaign if I can settle on a damn character class.

  44. Skalpadda says:

    TF2
    HL2:EP2
    Mass Effect
KotOR (Playing Mass Effect made me realise how much I missed this game :))
    Oblivion

Oh, and off-topic, I really didn’t like Oblivion the first time I tried it. After reading the exploration article here on RPS I took it up again, this time treating it like an exploration game, mostly ignoring the story line and disregarding wonky NPCs and whaddya know.. it’s actually fun to just crawl around the map :)

  45. Lach says:
