The Past Three Months

Okay, I’m going to be open with you and say that this post is a little bit about information gathering, rather than simply being a fun exercise. Nevertheless it would be interesting and useful if you guys would tell me what games you’ve played for more than a couple of hours in the last three months. Don’t bother including mini-games, free indie stuff that we’ve posted on here unless you’ve played it obsessively for many hours.

I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours. I’m going to include non-PC stuff too. And remember: it was my job to play some of this stuff.

The Rossignol tri-month game spread, roughly in order of how much I’ve played the game:

Eve Online
Age Of Conan
Team Fortress 2
Stronghold Crusader Extreme (Don’t agree with Kieron, thought it was pretty horrible.)
Spore Creature Creator (Not exactly a game, I know.)
GTA IV
Wings Of Honour: Battles Of The Red Baron (Actually not bad)
Crazy Machines 2
Oblivion
GRID
Stalker
Rock Band
Air Rivals (Still meaning to post about that. Kind of an interesting PvP MMO.)
Fallen Empires: Legions Beta

I’ve probably missed something significant, but that’s the basic line up.

You?

At roughly 200 comments (of which ~10 or so discounted for being comments on other lists or ‘oh and I forgot’ addendums)…

    …only 64 didn’t Team Fortress 2 in the list! :o

Considering that some lists were clearly from people who were either not interested in multiplayer games or whose games suggested they cannot run any high-spec games, that’s a pretty solid indication of Team Fortress’ success rate.

Now, I’m measuring success by how many people have returned/remained to play the Pyro and Medic packs. I’m guessing if you asked those players whether they’re entirely happy being Valve’s guinea-pigs-cum-external-unpaid-testers, you might get a different response.

I think since the introduction of the new weapons (and the balance changes they’ve made to other classes), TF2 has actually made me want to turn off prematurely because the Pyro is so ludicrously overpowered and has a hard counter to every single class. Pisses me off to see that the Pyro weapons/buffs fairly obviously haven’t had enough testing time, because testers playing it 6 hours a day would pick up on this fact within a week or two.

  2. What i have been playing in the past three months in no particular order.

    STALKER
    Team Fortress 2
Age of Conan (then took it back. I surpass the recommended specs, and get 4 FPS in any town. Forget that.)
Close Combat 3: The Russian Front
    Peggle Extreme
Call of Duty 4 (Single player only. I didn’t like it enough to play again, and the multiplayer requires punkbuster so.. no thanks.)
Deus Ex: Invisible War (Finally purchased and beat it. Not as good as the first one, but a good game of it’s own merit.)
Counter Strike 1.6 (Had a tonne of trouble finding a good server.)
Unreal Tournament 3 (Impossible to find servers for.)
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos (great game, I really enjoyed it)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (with my step-son)

All on PC. A couple of these might have been 4 or so months ago. Who can remember? Great poll, though; gives me more ideas for games.

  12. Jamie says:

    Forgot

    Psychonauts
    Portal

  13. LionsPhil says:

Unreal Tournament 2004. Lots of. UT3 broke the teamplay mechanics (especially VCTF) so much that our usual online lot are sticking with the classic.

Other than that: Nethack; OpenTTD; Frets on Fire; Rigs of Rods. All playable in bursts (as with UT2K4), all free to varying degrees. That’s a reflection on my recent free time fragmentation, though: Supreme Commander, Bioshock and Deus Ex (replay…five?) drift just outside the three month gap, and Crysis and the System Shocks are future contenders.

  14. Narcolei says:

    Team Fortress 2
    Mass Effect PC
    Darwinia
    Guitar Hero III PC
    Titan Quest

  15. np says:

    Okami (Wii)

  16. The Shed says:

    M’kay.

-Alone in the Dark [360] (despite what the reviews say, I’m quite enjoying it EDIT: SHITE ENDING THOUGH.)
    -BF: Bad Company [360]
    -GTA IV [360]
    -Mount & Blade
-Beyond Good & Evil [PC] (loverly little game there)
    -MGS3 [PS2 natch]
-Silent Hill 3 [also PS2, natch]
    -GTA III
    -CoD4 [360] (friend-based banter)
-Skate [360] (threw her in while I dled various videos/ demos, what a game)
-Assassin’s Creed [360] (linear story, but good nonetheless, was collecting all the flags before I gave it to a friend along with Mass Effect in exchange for GTA IV)
-N [360] (not really Indy anymore)
    -Cooking Mama [DS]
    -Doctor K’s Brain Training [DS]
    -Ninja Gaiden [DS]
    -Ninja Gaiden II Demo [360]
    -Hotel Dusk [DS]
    -…A few others that I can’t mind.

(If I wasn’t lending Shadow of the Colossus and Ico to friends, they would certainly be in this list)

Yeah, so, PC gaming threw me off it’s back a few years ago, and I never really got bothered enough to climb back on. Bitterness against PC gaming is still rife in my soul. I should be playing Dwarf Fortress though. I definately should. And I feel like some more Thief: Deadly Shadows…

Why’s Crispy here so obsessed with TF2?

Also, when is Rossig gonna reveal his ultimate plan with all this newfound info..?
