Dave - th4e difference is GOG is legal. The site you mentioned is, at best, only semi legal. And it doesn't change the fact that you are left with working out how to get the games working on your XP/Vista PC, and, of course if it needs the manual to put a code word in, does it come with it? Also, by pointing to a semi-legal at best site, you are going to hurt GOG DOS game sales, so that wins Win95 and Win98 games will never get the GOG treatment!

You might as well be suggesting a 'fallen off the back of a truck' site because you can get a hi-fi for $10! It might be legal, but then again, you could be promoting something illegal! So it goes with games. So I believe your post should be removed.

GOG has now added Redneck Rampage, Soldiers of WWII and Stonekeep - it just keeps getting better - and I must say, the community forums are some of the nicest forums I have had the pleasure of using! Long may it last and long may it grow. I too worry that Steam might get more retro titles, like they got the X-Com series, but they sell at a higher price, include DRM and do not guarantee compatibility - so that worries me! I hope G.O.G. manage it as they have the right attitude - The Witcher proved that!

At the moment, they're running a "buy one, get Interplay one free" deal. Just got Freespace 2 and Hostile Waters for $5.99. Unlike Steam, that <i>includes</i> tax. 2 games for €4.15 - that's great.

Like the first poster, I was worried that it was only going to be the best known Good Old Games, but i am one of the beta users and as soon as I saw they had Hostile Waters, by Rage, I knew they understood good games, well-known or not! So far i have downloaded Fallout 1 and got Fallout 2 for free for being part of the beta test. Both downloaded speedily and installed perfectly. Both came with pdf manuals that were excellent quality, and in the sub forum for the games, G.O.G. had placed links to mods for both the games! There is already thriving forum threads and I see it becoming the place to talk about PC retro games! DOS games will be available using DOSBox and freeware titles like Freespace (mentioned above) are quite a lot of hassle to download and then update and patch to get running. I know, I did it! I can understand a lot of people not wanting to do all that when for $6 you can just download it and run it! Also it should be noted that on G.O.G., for your $6 you get Freespace AND the expansion!

I wish G.O.G. all the best, and I will be there for the long-haul, urging them on and supporting them!

W00t!!! got my Beta access and Fallout is running like a charm and without the necessity for me to jump through hoops to do so on my 64 bit Vista powered Behemoth. All for a measly $5.99 ;)

* gets back to stabbing rats at Vault entrance

I second Heliocentric's thoughts on a hamachi-like multiplayer service for these games. For years I've wanted to play Giants' incredible multiplayer on a large scale( more than me and three chums), and who knows maybe this could be a start. The mostly perfect blend of RTS with third-person action. Three factions fighting against each other in massive levels. To my knowledge nothing like has been achieved in a singleplayer campaign let alone in multiplayer in the nearly 10 years since.
Bravo GoG for bringing back the classics.

Wow the games industry actually starting to listen to gamers... holy shit somebody colour me stupid.

Question : Any chance of perhaps the old demo's of the games being made available? So we can try before we part with our hard earned cash ?

<blockquote cite="">the difference between access to “masters” and “source code” eluded me until yesterday.

So what is the difference? :P</blockquote>

I believe he's referring to "masters" as being the original game files whereas "source code" is the actual code which is needed to fix the games.

How someone could possibly confuse the two is beyond me but life wouldn't be fun without confusion.
