My hands can now write ‘E3: The Trailers’ before my brain sends a signal for them to do so. This scares me. I’m going to have to write something really long and self-indulgent next week to compensate for all these blinkin’ videos.
Singularity: the other new game from Raven, and the first time in a near-decade they’re not hooking an FPS onto someone else’s license. But it is, unsurprisingly, an FPS. The trailer (already mentioned in Jim’s post, but figured it was well worth highlighting separately) isn’t giving much away, though if I were to make a knee-jerk judgement – which I do about everything, especially people and types of cheese – I’d say something like ‘FEAR at sea.’ I’m probably waaaaay off, as reportedly it’s got something to do with time-travel. Timeshift at sea, then.

Philadelphia Experiment inspired, I reckon.

Kinda interested. Could be fun. My guess? Kairo (also known via the remarkably bad American remake, The Pulse) mixed with the Philadelphia Experiment and the technological Singularity.
16/07/2008 at 23:52 Gap Gen says:
To be honest, they never listen, really. Could be someone making black holes or something, as opposed to the technological singularity.

I’m going to go for Philidephia Experiment crossed with Event Horizon based.

What have these guys done that was good? I only know them from Quake 4, which was terrible.

Raven are the industry leaders in producing absolutely average games.
17/07/2008 at 00:15 Tertiee says:
Raven did Jedi Knight II, Jedi Academy, X-Men Legends, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance as their recent games aside from Quake 4.

FEAR + STALKER + Philadelphia Experiment.

Trying to remember.. people experimenting with physics.. opening a doorway to a strange dimension where monsters poured through.. hrm.. what game was that…

C’mon Raven. What happened to Soldier of Fortune? Remember that, that was a good game!

Looks very pretty.
Has there been anything else about this?

Am I the only one who starts grinding his teeth when lazy graphic designers start reversing N’s and R’s to make a logo look “Russian”? Honestly it’s bothered me since that stupid illegal Atari Tetris game in the late 80s.
LOOK PEOPLE. “И” IS PRONOUNCED “I” and “Я” IS PRONOUNCED “YA”.
Therefore I will continue to call your stupid kinda-Russian game “Seegoolayaeetee” until you learn to bloody well spell it properly.

Amused by the ads for women’s shoes. Obviously shoes and the singularity have some subtle connection I’m missing.
Edit: Now it’s tooth whitening ads. The ways of Google Ads are indeed mysterious.

Heretic 2 was a very fun Raven game.
I’m a fan of that one.
The trailer looks pretty boring compared to that oldie…
17/07/2008 at 06:29 Scandalon says:
Cue complaint about the voice acting in 3…2…
(Or it that reserved for stalker? I can never tell when I’m supposed to praise the accented english voices and when to condemn them…)
17/07/2008 at 07:09 Malagate says:
Hmm time travel plus a potentially russian ship plus horrible disaster plus lots of fighting horrible people things? Sounds quite a lot like Cryostasis to me, but has nothing to do with Ice nor does it sound as good so far. I’ll be “meh” until otherwise proven.
17/07/2008 at 07:11 Incognito says:
Well, that did look like every other action game presented att E3. In other words, boring.
Here´s a tip: Use colours. If you use colours, than your game will be the only one, next to the HL2-episodes, that uses colours. And people will notice it.
And perhaps buy it.

Raven also made most bearable Star Trek Shooters, if I recall correctly.

Damn it not a single PC game from E3 has blue skies.. (The sims isn’t a game damn it its a virus…)
17/07/2008 at 11:30 Flint says:
Raven did Jedi Knight II, Jedi Academy, X-Men Legends, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance as their recent games aside from Quake 4.
And Heretic 2. Never forget the glory that is Heretic 2.
Oh yeah, Hexens too. But that’s going way back.

MtotheThird: My dad owned a pair of trainers called Pegasus that had some letters replaced with greek symbols, so it was pronounced “rsglsus”

That looked uninspired. And drab.

Interesting.
17/07/2008 at 17:11 hydra9 says:
The trailer doesn’t really show much, but:
@Malagate: Yep, the first thing I thought was ‘Cryostasis’ – due to the setting and Russian-ness. However, Cryostasis should be coming out pretty soon (I hope) and looks damn interesting. Whereas this looks extremely average.
@MtotheThird: No, you’re not the only one ;) It pisses me off, too. So lazy and dumb!
