@cyrenic;

Because very often, the devs themselves don't have a say in the trailer. It is the marketing guys and the publishers who take care of that, sadly I might add.

On a team of a 100 people, it is perfectly conceivable that only 1 to 10 people even see the trailer before its release on the web.

I'd wager that a pretty good percentage of the trailers we see wouldn't see the light of day if it was up to the devs, which I can understand in many cases.

That zero-G Dead Space trailer was pretty wicked. You know, for years I've been waiting for Escherian gravity play, for portal-based hypercubes, and have been disappointed. I spoke to a dev friend who says it's too disorienting for players. Public reception of this game could have a large effect on future games. (Although the game doesn't look very interesting to me in any other way.)

The sewer shot from Mirror's Edge is pretty. Yeah, it's a sewer, but it's not the same sewer we've seen a million times. I think most people are really interested in exactly how ME plays-- everybody's scared that it's Dragon's Lair 2008: "Hit -> to wall run! Oops, too slow, you get run over by a giant rolling sphere." How do all those nifty moves work?

I must admit, I am somewhat surprised and amazed that EA are releasing at least 2 games with very high game of the year potential. I'm almost prepared to forgive them for their EA Sports division (Even though I have no interest in sports games anyway), I regret however that I cannot forgive EA for allowing the EA spouse incident to occur, at least not yet. I'm sure the majority of folks there are 24 carrot solid gold, but 85 hour weeks should never be allowed and certainly not ones that have been deliberately scheduled to be that way from way in advance of it.

So about that MySims thing. I hear it's going to be coming to PC.

And that it'll include new online features.

Maybe the marketing department is under EA's thumb? Maybe all marketing departments everywhere are just rubbish. Personally I think it's the latter.

Ha, if the Warhammer devs know their trailers look like crap, why are they letting them get released?

I've lost a lot of my enthusiasm for mirror's edge after seeing the developer walkthrough trailer. It looked so clean and beautiful in the initial teasers - the same kind of beauty as shadow of the colossus.

But generic comlink mission voice, generic main character dialogue and generic guard threats somehow drowned out the visuals and made it seem messy and cluttered. Generically videogamey. Also; bullet time.

It looked like a brilliant concept executed halfway, then drowned under videogame cliché.

I still like the "look for red" deal though. With the subdued monochrome aesthetic they have going, they could even change the key colour from area to area to avoid clashing with the environment - vivid blue in the dull green sewers you mention for example.
