We talked about its announcement, but since it’s drifting closer to release, Focus have let slip the PR-mainbrace and – er – released videos. Many videos. With ships in them. Which you can find beneath the cut. My favourite is the ACC trailer, as its description text on GameTrailers is “Check out this trimaran”. Indeed.
The Main trailer:
The ACC-trailer. CHECK OUT THAT TRIMARAN.
I’ve rarely seen a finer Trimaran. Have you? Well, I envy you.
Anyway, this is the Melges trailer…
This is the multiplayer trailer…
And this is the offshore trailer…
And this is Rio by Duran Duran, which also features a boat…
In returning to a theme this week of mocking OLL-presenter Simon Byron, I always recall when an old girlfriend first met him. We walked into the Triforce’s chalet at top-Indie-festival All-Tomorrow’s Parties, which was pretty much empty, bar Simon rolling on the floor in the doorway, howling Hungry Like The Wolf at max-volume and min-melody into his Singstar mike. And as we step over his rolling body, I introduce him “Oh – and this is Simon Byron”.
Anyway – enough about Simon Byron. Virtual Skipper 5!
Boats are amazing.

If only you could talk to the boats though.
No that WOULD be something.

Very pretty water effects… shame the crew seem to stand at 90 degrees to the deck regardless of the angle the boat is heeling at… and they seem to turn rather abruptly, which looks wrong. Though I’m not sure why I’m being picky about a game I have zero interest in actually playing.
I’m a bit confused. The Virtual Skipper 5 website reckons this was released in April 2007.
The bump mapping on the last video is pretty subpar.
Oh wait, that’s just Le Bon’s face.
I don’t think RPS has already linked to this stuff, and I had to find it from penny-arcade, but late’s better than never!

Interesting reads all around.
I’d just like it if they made little boaty noises when you clicked on them, like in an RTS game. Maybe actually if they said things like “okay!” or “I’m on it!” or “can do!” but made out of the creaking and groaning noises of the rigging.

I am actually pretty sure I played a demo more than a year ago just to see the pretty water, so you could be on to something.
Maybe they just released a few new videos due to an expected boom of interest in sailing sims. :)
That is no surprise, now that the Team Rule Britannia have won the Olympics and once again Oxford and Cambridge have proved that they are the undisputed masters of racing boats on the Thames.
But where are the others?
