Why does everyone think there are "rights" and "wrongs" to game making. You all mentino that they DIDN'T do certain things, or SHOULD have done certian things... if there are such distinct right/wrong methods of game-making, then eventually all games woudl reach the same result: the "right" one. Tjhey woudl jsut stuff EVERY feature into one title without regard to balance and the actualy EVENT of game-playing.
I am MORE than ready to dispute every single one of these comments, one-by-one. All of your levels of understanding of v.games is (at best) mediocre.

gave it a try because I was intrigued by the mention of Dwarf Fortress. Sadly, that seems to be just a well-placed marketing-gag, as all the stuff that's so darn addicting about DF seems to be missing in Hinterland. the village and its inhabitants are not really customizable and serve as some kind of bland RPS-like base without any of DF's charm.
for the price it's ok, I guess...
... although it'd be better karma to donate to tarn adams instead!!

I've played a fair bit of it now, and I have to say, while it's got issues, it's got some incredibly innovative ideas going. Hopefully have a review up by the end of the day.

I like it, its definitely on the shorter end, like you sortof expect with a $20 game. Of course it would be awesome if it had the depth of Dwarf Fortress, but that's a pretty massive thing to compare it to. It will be awesome if they improve it via patches and/or expand on this idea in future games.

I picked it up last night, but I found it to be kind of a mixed-bag.

The combat is a bit awkward, but mostly fun. The difficulty is confusing. For some reason, I was mowing down the enemies like grass when I started as an "Architect," but playing as more combat oriented classes caused the enemies to be MUCH harder to kill and I seemed to lose health more quickly. It might be something I was doing wrong, but I was left feeling very confused.

I'll probably keep hacking at it for awhile, but I'm already starting to wonder, 'is this it?' For $20, I might have been asking too much too.
