They just lost a sale: me. There are a lot of games coming out this time of the year and the first of the good games that come out are the ones I buy. Maybe, when the price has dropped to 5 Euros...

Actually, if the PC is more popular, might day 1 sales be better even if piracy is worse? As it is, if you stagger release you risk spreading out your marketing budget's bang-per-buck, and losing sales because the PC arrived months after everyone stopped caring (esp if they release in January, after Christmas).

Also, you're heavily assuming that pirates buy console games, which is a bit dubious, I think. Someone needs to do some market research.

@SPEEDCORE

While it's true that games on consoles cost us customers more, developers actually see more profit from PC games because there isn't the console manufacturer taking a cut. That is why the Sims and Spore are such a big deal for EA. As developer, publisher and distributor the profit they make on each game is huge compared to the console games they make.

The game looks good, but I don't think I'll be getting it. Ultimately EA's absolutely retarded stance on DRM is just too much for me to swallow this time. I would have some inkling of an understanding if installation limits somehow reduced piracy, but they don't. And extra limits on the consumer, especially with no actual gain against piracy, is ridiculous.

There are plenty of other games coming out over the next few months that don't have such an idiotic system. I don't think I'll have a shortage of people to give my money to. EA just won't be one of them this time.

@Flappybat: "Surely it’s unwise to keep showing a sewer level."
It would be unwise to show every level the game has before the release.
This trailer did little to raise my interest, tying Sebastien to the game is an obvious step for the PR to take, and i'd rather see more gameplay footage. What this did show me for the first time was race mode, which in principle looks good, but seeing them just tail the ghost did little to assuage the fears that the levels will be horribly linear. The writeup elsewhere I read of handson time with it suggested much greater diversity with a good 20% difference in time from a casual run to finding the optimum route. Showing two drastically different approaches to the same obstacle would have been the best thing to do in this video.

I don't know how it is in other countries but over here, console games actually cost $20+ more than PC games. I think its more trying to milk as much as they can out of ppl that have both console and PC's, why wait 1-12mths to save $20 when you can play on the console now. Those are the people they are trying to attract.

january is actually a confirmed date for PC version.

someone asked what is the point of the game - singleplayer is kinda story driven race - u get from point A to point B avoiding guards, running from someone, or chasing someone else. and as I said before (last ME news on RPS) so far storyline looks quite interesting - crimestory mixed with futuristic political (or rather sociological) fiction. and its fucking tense - that I can say for sure.

Preview code was mighty stable - it didnt hand once, and I played it all over for good 5 hours straight, and then some more, and more again.

I'll tell you what i think it is. They can't release a console version alongside a version with super-high res capabilities, all around better graphics, anti aliasing, all the bells and whistles because people would want the "best" one. So they wait a month or two and then release the PC version "Director's Cut" with one new level and an extra outfit so in theory not only is there no overlap but they can get pillocks to buy both versions.

In reality, this just adds to the self-fulfilling prophecy "the death of pc gaming" But hell they can just blame piracy for their shortcomings anyway (not like the 360 version of brother's in arms hasn't been up on bittorrent a week before it was released or anything)
