I just don’t really have time to add a third potentially active forum to my regular circulation – Quarter to Three and my other main forum (non-gaming related) keep me busy enough most days. Too busy, really.

What’s the matter with VB? Most of the places I hang out use it and it’s fast and a breeze. Is there some back end biz that makes it tough?
PHPBB looks like it might be made to slot into the RPS front end a bit easier, at least style wise, but maybe there’s no way that’s going to work. (I still don’t like the way most PHPBBs forums generally look, a squillion buttons and icons and avatars and frippery. It’s this facebook generation I tell ya).
Anyway it’s definately the speed and convenience of commenting over using the forum that I just can’ quit, just to add to that consensus.

Well, they laboriously help everybody out at their own forum, but I don’t think they’d mind the personal correspondence with internet heroes like RPS. They’ve done it before, so if they turn you down, consider it anglofobia.

Installing the comments system Disqus (which I’ve mentioned countless of times :P) also displays blog post comments as forum threads on a forum page. I believe it’s also possible to make groups/categories to make it look more like a regular forum. If need be, one or several users can be chosen to assign the posts to their respective categories – I’ve no experience with this part, as I only use it for the commenting.

It’s not perfect, but it’s better than the forum in a lot of regards. And it could also just be added to replace the current commenting system, which – if you ask me – if vastly inferiour in terms of commenting tools. As an aside, comments can be rated or flagged for moderation, where the former hides the stupid posts and people automatically.

GUComics, a site I visit very rarely now because I grew tired of its MMO focus (Particularly on MMOs I don’t and won’t play) runs on a system of posting content with a link to a forum thread, but I suspect its done manually which only really works if its a once a day rather than several times a day kind of thing.

Feet mentioned my thoughts on the forum. It would be grand if each Blog post generated a new forum thread so that the comments on the main page were also forum posts.
Sort of similar to the way ARS has it (but less ugly and with the option of just using comments).

Oh dear, Alec you opened the can of worms, and now they’re all over the floor, and their eating shoes.

It does annoy me that their isnt a button for todays posts. A forum without that, is archaic, stone age even.

Surely a code monkey can be set do do the job. And by set to do the job I mean abusing his/her RPS fanboyism and having the person do it for free.
