For their contribution to the first Global Game Jam, in which thousands of people made games in 48 hours this weekend, Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel paired up once more to create AVGM. It’s possibly important to note the game carries the following warnings: “Excessive Nudity, Excessive Violence, Explicit Audio, Mild Text, Explicit Adult Themes”. Although only the most puritanical of people would take a great deal of offence. Screenshot espousing this content, and more details, below.
It’s a simple Flash game in which you flick a light switch on and off in order to cause objects to appear in a room. These objects can be moved around and arranged, as you progress. The name of the game is not revealed until you have completed it.

McMillen assures that, “AVGM is an experimental art game and winner of 2010’s IGF award for innovation.” He’s also added that since the original release of the game,
“The game now has 10 different endings that each make a piece of a puzzle. put the puzzle together and e-mail me with the info (souldescen@aol.com) for a prize!”
Here’s a quick tip for that: try to arrange the skeleton correctly for the seventh ending – that’s possibly the funniest. Good luck finding them all.
Edit: Okay, the last sentence might not be true.

gave up after after about 1000 clicks. the promise of a “funny” skeleton ending isn’t tempting enough to push through this.
I don’t think that word means what you think it means…
I gave up, does that mean I win?
Well, this one sailed right over my head …
I tried this earlier. Uh. I had about 2000 clicks and then stuff started to turn coloured. Is it somehow depending on what you do with the stuff when new stuff comes? I switched the light on and off for ages to get new stuff to appear, until I got worried about my left mouse button and stopped.
1000 clicks, one google search for “free autoclicker” and a swift download later, I think I may have subverted something or other
Cheers clovus – I let spellcheck go in quite the wrong direction.
Another great game ruined by botting.
This is…terrible. Really.
In fact, this is so bad, it’s actually caused me physical pain. My right mouse finger is killing me.
Thanks, Rob, for the Autoclicker! I was about 2.5k in when I broke down…
Too bad the game has a minimum response time, or you could finish it in 10 seconds…
John Walker loves clicking on screen.
Banal Experimental Art Game.
Wow, people have a sore sense of humour today.
Because its Monday… remember Geldoff.
Does AVGM stand for “We want to make your RSI worse”?
I don’t understand why I have to click so many times, would the game not work if one click gave one item?
Lol after around 11000 (auto) clicks later I finished the game and I feel like a cheater :(
10,000+ clicks does not a good joke make. I got to 1000 clicks and gave up.
So what’s the A.V.G.M. stand for?
Average Video Gaming Mugs?
There’s a walkthru in the forum
***CONTAINS SPOILERS***
If you take a look at the comments at Newgrounds, you’ll notice, that there are at least two people who claim to have gotten an erection by playing this game.
I’m wondering if “I had an erection” /”I had a huge boner” is some new kind of internet code to express one’s appreciation of a flash game.
Yeah, sorry guys. Normally I’m right behind your weird and/or interesting finds, but this one is just wrong.
Feels like those games the bully used to play on me, erm, I mean you, where you had no way of winning.
Also, it’s like the anti YHTBTR.
As players of flash games we don’t mind wasting time.
So long as it’s not a complete waste of time.
I love pretentious art games, but this is just … a lot of clicking. Where’s the love?
I actually don’t get this.
It’s like that game the “cool” kids at school used to play by asking other kids if they were a virgin or not. Of course, not knowing what a virgin was when you were 8, you could only guess the correct answer. If you answered in the affirmative or the negative you were equally greeted with guffaws and “Can you BELIEVE this guy!? Not/Is a virgin!!! What a loser.”
Yeah it reminds me of that, with the shifting of the goals and all… or perhaps the not having any goals either way…
Except that once I read the walk through for this it was kind of funny.
Ouch.
You’re not my fwend any more. I don’t like you. You’re mean. I’m gonna tell.
Do not play it. It is a worthless piece of crap. I gave up at 3500 with a sore arm and got the aforementioned auto clicker. I seriously doubt John Walkers ability to recognize a video game as distinct to a chew toy a dog would use to make a noise.
At 1200 clicks the secret is revealed it’s a nothing piece of crap. Yes it’s a joke, I get it, but it’s just not funny. if your not going to play something yourself then never ask someone else to do it. Even if it is a joke.
I think i’m just going to skip walkers post from now on.
Commenting time wasters in time wasted uproar.
Film at 11.
First off, I earned the win the hard way, helps that I have a laptop AND wireless mouse, two left buttons alternating.
Also, I love the play on the “why we keep playing” concept, each step is slightly further away. I’m sure everyone thought “Next one should be soon” We have become victims of why games are fun.
It seems the only winning move…
Is not to play.
I totally won.
I came.
I saw?
I refuse to be party to this.
RSI, you say?
Avoids AVGM, reinstalls Diablo II
Why on earth did the people complaining carry on clicking?
KG
“Why on earth did the people complaining carry on clicking?”
Because we had faith in rps that they would not point us towards a shallow prank?
I mean if it was April first then Fine, all bets are off… but this was just after the global games jam. Your expecting games to be a bit broken and a bit laborious; but not for the first game recommended to be a joyless prank.
Bloohoo D;
I got to about 100, got the point, then stopped.
Don’t make us have to use emoticons in posts. You’ll make us sad :(

Will RPS be doing a feature on the best Global Game Jam had to offer? (other than this ‘game’, obviously)
It’s possible. RPS editorial decisions are fairly random.
“fairly random” Intensely random, some might say… ;) Fine, I over reacted, but my hand is still fucking sore and recommending crap does burn credibility and a willingness to try new things.
yeah, i also took the game being worthy of an article on rps as a recommendation. couldn’t see any other reason for this, though, beyond having mcmillen as its creator.
heh, on the other hand, i don’t really care since i didn’t spend THAT much time with it to get to be pissed off at myself for clicking stupidly for an hour. i get some sort of ego-boost, though, from the fact that there are prolly others who actually clicked 10k times, while i stopped at just 1k, so it’s not all bad.
Lot of whiners in here best line “I think i’m just going to skip walkers post from now on.” hahahah
A Video Game Manipulation
At last that’s my guess. Yea, I went to 10,000 actual clicks except for the 50 autoclicks i used until i decided it wasn’t worth it. That was before I saw the autoclick warning. Then part of me died.
I think, not having played it as I have exactly the right amount of cynicism, assume it’s not the kind of joke that’s funny when you play it, but the kind that’s funny when you trick some other poor shmuck into playing.
So, John, is it fun when you do that, or a failure on that level?
Hey, John Walker.
Think about your breathing.
In reply to the whiners
How does it feel to be the punchline to Walker’s joke?
