NYCC: DC Universe

By Jim Rossignol on February 7th, 2009 at 4:07 pm.

Could there be a more appropriate game to show at NYCC? These DC Universe developer walkthroughs contain a substantial mass of in-game material, including some villains doing their evil unpleasantness. Also some PvP in which a dude gets frozen into a block of ice and then bounced off a wall.

I’m quitely optimistic about this one – it doesn’t look particularly startling, but I’m hoping it will make a fun port of call for pervert-suit action. Quite whether it will be this, or Champions Online, which takes the next-generation super-crown, it’s hard to say.

Same. I enjoyed City of Heroes for a couple of months… was that the name?

    report

  3. Insecure says:

    Yeah. City of Heroes/Villains.

CHampions Online looks goof too but DC Universe Online looks better imo.

  4. Nny says:

It looks quite cool actually, might give it a spin when it comes out.

An evil psychic clown with super speed and strength? I’m going to have nightmares…

A Marvel universe game would probably be more apropriate, as practically all their super-heroes live in New York. A lot of D.C.’s stable live in fictional cities.

    Hmm, looked meh to me.

  8. PHeMoX says:

It doesn’t get me all excited either… seems rather weak when it comes to FX and graphics, eventhough gameplay seems alright.

I’m not an MMO kind of gamer though.

Wow, that video commentator sounds like he just ate 5 pixie sticks and downed a red bull.

Also, was it just me or did that in-game popup of the guy with glasses sound like it was voiced by Mark Hamill?

I liked the super-running up walls etc, but the attacks seemed a bit weak. Fleeing scientists, and he can’t even kill them before they get out of the door? What kind of crazy killer clown is this guy?

Looking forward to Champions Online myself. I always prefered Marvel to DC.

Mark voices the joker, so either that was the joker in disguise or they got him to do other voices.

Looked pretty cool, very COH/COV like.

The really only cool thing I thought was inventive was active use of the environments to “weaponize”

Did anyone else notice the EQ Ding? lol

  13. Bhazor says:

So the quests are single rooms with ai goons?
Fun and not at all tedious.
It looks like a barren, joyless and under populated Freedom Force.

  14. Gnarl says:

I’m confused by the use of the term next-generation in a way not related to consoles. Is it perhaps more HD than the previous games?

It’s a meaningless buzzword that should be treated with contempt.

It looks to me like Wizards of Wor, only less fun.

    I can’t choose!
    Champions or DC?
    I’m already a City of X player so it’s a logical transition.
    Choices choices.

DC looks like the combat is more action-oriented

“look at the super power here running really fast” damn what happend to video games? it seems like they stopped working on new ideas years ago and all they ever do now is make crappy games with crappy combat systems and then tell everyone how cool that is -_- all the NYCC games shown here really disapointed me :( there were games like that years ago :(

i THINK i am the minority when I say that this game looks like trash. It is because when I watch the gameplay I constantly am thinking about how awesome it would be if major aspects were just done properly!

NuZZ i totaly agree with you!

  22. Trousers says:

I don’t think I could ever get into it, but maybe that’s just me.

    It looks a bit clusterfuckish = /

    Wait a minute…
Doomsday managed to kill Superman and now he is secured by a psycho clown ?

  24. Anthony Damiani says:

Not just any psycho clown– a psycho clown who can’t even take down fleeing scientists.

    report

  25. Catastrophe says:

Not just any psycho clown who can’t even take down fleeing scientists!

A psycho clown who can’t even take down fleeing scientists who can shoot laser beams out his eyes and can run up walls!

    report

  26. Tei says:

    Rock, Paper, Shotgun guys.
Superman is rock, Doomsday is paper, Psycho clown is shotgun.

    report

  27. Catastrophe says:

To be fair I’m thinking I like the look of DCU over CO after watching the recent CO video on RPS.

    I like the action combat.
