Secretly we were always on the side of the Russians in the America-invading alterna-history of World In Conflict – take that, Seattle! Ahem. New missions from the Russian perspective, multiplayer maps, and other bits for World In Conflict are, happily, going to arrive at last with the Ubisoft publication of Soviet Assault in March. The trailer, which we overlooked last week because we were too busy looking at the sky for signs of Armageddon, is after the jump.

Commies=less played out than nazis
Never finished the original game but i do very much wish a slightly less gamey version of this game existed. Less microing my powers. More strategic warfare. The game is ultimately at its best when you have a tiny force in multiplayer due to a full server. Guiding a sniper on the far side of a river and dropping in a transport heli of anti tank troops under cover of artillary.

World in Conflict is awesome. I’ve finished it three times, and become addicted to 80s power rock for about a week every time. Hopefully this will be awesome too.

Plus commies had far better inspirational posters and music than the nazis. The russians really have that patriotic poster thing nailed.
report
The original had the best campaing I have ever played in strategy game.If this is as good, I will be buying it.
report
Soooo many strategy games coming out in the near future. Wallet am crai.

Again, one of the best videos you can make using in-game images. The engine of WIC is true great.

Funny how it works. In the last weeks i have been playing fps after fps: FEAR 2, Armed Assault, Team Fortress 2, Dystopia, Resistance & Liberation, Quake I, Crysis, Shellshock 2, etc.
I wanted to change a bit for something more strategic, and now they release the RTS ALL TOGETHER. Dawn of War 2, WiC Soviet Assault and Empire TW in the space of a few weeks.
report
And their jokes were far better.
Why is it not possible to control the birth rate in Soviet Bloc countries?
Because the means of production remain in private hands.
report
Did the guy who did the music for Medieval Total War decide to score this one, too?
Anyway. WiC remains one of the only RTSes that I really can enjoy and play with any ability. Expansions can only be a good thing.

Arec Barldwin!
The greatest actor in the world.
report
Hey, I can see my house in that trailer!
report
Reasons I love WiC: multiplayer is extremely fun and accessible; Massive did a wonderful job modeling Seattle (I can actually find the apartment building where I lived); the Collector’s Edition is swanky.
Will Soviet Assault be standalone? Since Ubisoft is publishing it, the U.S., at least, should get a Steam release.
report
PS: I think Soviet Assault will also feature the Lun-class ekranoplan.
Yay ekranoplan!

Signs of Armageddon?
report
That trailer was fantastic.
I don’t understand why I haven’t played this yet, will the original be bargain binned yet?
report
That was exciting. I am excited.
report
But Valve are in seattle!
report
Bellevue, technically :P
report
And so is Microsoft. Karmic balance!
report
They pretty much had me at ‘from the Russian Perspective.’
<3 Soviet Union
report
March is gonna be a goooooood month.
report
Wait, why do most games either put players on the side of ‘the allies’ (or NATO or..) -or- have the enemies of the ‘West’ prefer to target Europe?
This isn’t fair. (oh I can imagine why, I just heartily disagree with those faux-reasons) At least I think I saw a bit of USA near the end of the trailer.
report
EKRANOPLAN!
KG
report
Its only natural enemy is the nalponarke.
report
Holy… SWEET EKRANOPLAN!
That thing is really cool!
