This is your late-night silly: Mike Rose, of the deliciously lovely IndieGames, spent the time he was supposed to be studying for exams last year making a Parklife spoof in the Half-Life 2 engine. He’s only just remembered he did it, and sent it our way That you haven’t done this is why you’ll never know the fame and glamour that inevitably awaits Mike Rose. It is, of course, below.
If I may venture one small criticism (other than how the singing makes my ears want to cry) it’s the complete absence of an “OI!” at the beginning. But apart from that, more of this sort of nonsense.
To compare and contrast, here with an almost frightening disregard for copyright, is Blur’s Parklife video:

hilarious! :)
26/02/2009 at 03:38 A-Scale says:
Is this a British thing?
“I put my HAYCH-EEE-VEE suit on”
Must be.
26/02/2009 at 03:42 A-Scale says:
I should have made that clearer: I’ve never heard of the song. It must be a Brit thing.
26/02/2009 at 03:42 nabeel says:
Looool.
26/02/2009 at 04:49 Nick says:
A-scale – my wife is American and had heard it before she moved here. Blur weren’t that big in the US ’till Song 2 mind you, it was early 90′s stuff. As for haych, I’m not sure why, but some people pronounce it that way rather than atech, not just British either, South of Ireland as well – but not everyone (I don’t, for example). You have heard of accents, different pronunciations and regional dialects I assume, they aren’t alone in being a “British thing”.
26/02/2009 at 05:03 jalf says:
Haha, awesome!
True about the missing OI! though. What’s the *point* in Parklife without the OI!?
26/02/2009 at 05:44 BritishTexan says:
Best. Video. Ever. Rescued what was an utterly awful day in work, cheers lads.
26/02/2009 at 06:14 A-Scale says:
Tell me more about these accents…
26/02/2009 at 06:41 Cunningbeef says:
Utterly brilliant.
He sounds pained yet sublimely cheerful trying to squeeze out the chorus.
26/02/2009 at 07:08 Al says:
OW. Nice idea, but crikey, the singing, the akward lyrics, the lack of “Oi!”- painful.
26/02/2009 at 07:31 Joerdgs says:
Don’t forget to say it’s been made with Garry’s Mod :P

26/02/2009 at 08:53 Ginger Yellow says:
Nick, true, but the British accents and photo of UK PCG are a bit of a giveaway.
26/02/2009 at 09:03 Alex McLarty says:
BOOM! Headshot.
Feel empty now.
26/02/2009 at 09:04 phuzz says:
I had to watch this in 10 second bursts, just so I could let the hilarity subside and not make a complete tit out of myself at work.
It didn’t work.
bloody funny though.
26/02/2009 at 09:08 Catastrophe says:
@A-Scale
The lead singer of Blur is the lead singer of Gorrilaz.
Surely they made it bigger than Blur in USA?
26/02/2009 at 09:09 Catastrophe says:
(Sorry for double post but I had to correct it)
Gorillaz*

The day can surely only go downhill after this.

Damn, they’re terrible as singing tho… someone should do it again, but better.
26/02/2009 at 09:44 Nick says:
“Nick, true, but the British accents and photo of UK PCG are a bit of a giveaway.”
I don’t understand what you mean in relation to what I posted.
“tell me more of these accents”
You were the one acting confused when it was blatantly obvious.
26/02/2009 at 09:54 Katsumoto (jvgp100) says:
Great video, takes me back to the 90s and “ze good old days”!
Always good to expose A-Scale to life outside his own corner of the world too ;P “Shit, it’s not American! Panic!” ;) Hehe. I hear Blur are getting back together, incidentally. I doubt it will ever get as good as this, though!
26/02/2009 at 09:59 MonkeyMonster says:
That is a glass of pure grin :D
26/02/2009 at 10:34 hydra9 says:
Pretty damn awesome.
26/02/2009 at 11:13 Thelps says:
That was EXACTLY what I needed to see first-thing out of bed. Truely excellent, I look forward to the rest of the day.
Every day should begin with a machinima incorporating a Britpop song and an A-list title from gaming years past.
26/02/2009 at 11:19 Schmung says:
Genius. Grinning like a loon now.
26/02/2009 at 11:36 Zephyrtron says:
All the headcrabs!!
26/02/2009 at 11:40 Kitt Basch says:
Head crabs do not have hands, silly nose.
For some reason I imagine a Havok-powered rendition of Song 2 would be funny.
When I actually think about it, it would probably be terrible.
26/02/2009 at 12:25 phuzz says:
Blur are reforming for some (money grabbing) gigs this year.
Also I have eaten some of Alex James’ cheese. so there.
26/02/2009 at 13:35 Ginger Yellow says:
I wasn’t acting confused. My response to you was my first post on the thread. And it was in response to the “Haytch isn’t only British” thing. Lighten up, dude.
26/02/2009 at 13:43 cyrenic says:
The awful singing was key to the whole experience.

26/02/2009 at 14:32 dhex says:
“Surely they made it bigger than Blur in USA?”
i’ve never figured out what their audience was supposed to be. people who grew up too late for the monkees?
very odd.
26/02/2009 at 14:34 Phillipa Kettle says:
@Metalcircus: Posting a humourous gaming-related video spoof of a well-loved Britpop classic on a gaming website noted (in society) for its wacky sense of fun and word-wit? Madness!! You’re right – this surely must be a sign of the End Times!!!
Have a careful read through of the comments above yours and see what other people are getting from it that you, and your rudeness, obviously aren’t.
26/02/2009 at 15:11 Cooper says:
This would be much, much better if the guy singing didn’t make me wince. Also
Oi!

26/02/2009 at 16:58 Muzman says:
That was genuinely funny for the most part, but did they have to do the bit with the crate? Really?
26/02/2009 at 22:19 A-Scale says:
More hilarious British reaction to no longer being the center of the world. Keep it up guys, the empire will return!

I think you’ll find it already has – goes off to play Empire: Total War.

26/02/2009 at 23:43 Dorian Cornelius Jasper says:
You know, humming a spoken word portion of a song in public is bound to raise eyebrows.
Which is what happened at work today thanks to these vids. And I don’t even like Blur.
27/02/2009 at 03:03 drewski says:
I would happily give Blur all of my money to finally see them live, so I’m happy they’re going grabby.
This was good. But listening to the song again was better.

“More hilarious British reaction to no longer being the center of the world. Keep it up guys, the empire will return!”
That’s “centre”. Tsk. And it’s more hilarious reaction to American’s being stereotypically arrogant. Keep it up, you’re embarrassing your fellow countrymen!
27/02/2009 at 09:56 Katsumoto (jvgp100) says:
Americans*. Tsk.

Keep it civil, all of you.
27/02/2009 at 11:20 Rob Lang says:
It’s a great tribute. I chuckled a lot. I like the way that the fellow uses his own northerner-esque accent rather than trying a Damon mockney one.
The original Parklife was overplayed so much when it was released as some supposed Oasis Killer. Pah to all that nonsense. Did anyone else start to hate what is not a bad song at all? The HL remix has made me see it in a new light.
27/02/2009 at 12:12 Katsumoto (jvgp100) says:
Sorry, Jim. This site needs an ignore feature, I don’t get nearly as worked up on Eurogamer because my ignore list has about 500 people on it! I’ll just try to ignore in my head.
We can do the Blur v Oasis thing instead. Blur ftw. Oasis sucked. Get a load of THAT!

I’m light, I was genuinly not understanding – as for the confused part, that wasn’t directed at you, nor was it responding to anything you said =)

‘haitch’ is normally considered bad form, and if spoken in the UK marks one out as a prole, depending on who hears it.
