I torrented the first one and thought it was great but didnt seem worth my money. Definitely buying this one though! The original plus soviet side and I get my hands multiplayer. Massive deserves my hard earned money.

And more generally speaking, I doubt either Activision OR Ubisoft would be happy if you could register one companys version of the game, and get the others.

Apart from games that use the source engine, games which use steamworks, and games which used steam for a free weekend or similar (ut3, though I suspect it was more the thought of everyone downloading the mahoosive patch that did it) it’s a motley bunch

Retail key working in Steam = win.

Why oh why is it only UT3 which seems to have done this? I must’ve compulsively typed every key for a Steam available game that I bought in that thar real world into that darn activation box just on the off chance it might work.

Shame, because my dog eats CDs and DVDs.

I got the original collectors edition with free berlin wall and a dvd about the period also a trial copy to give to a friend that gives access to the full game for 2 weeks. I wish all collectors editions were so meaningfully improved.

Scratch that, i’d be broke.

Infact, i’ve just tried adding my Retail key to Steam and it just kicks up an error saying not a valid key – BAH !!!

I don;t believe you can just use your CD Key in Steam – and the expansion d/l from Steam doesn’t work with Retail. Kinda silly to have gone to the effort of creating a Steam version of teh expansion only and not bothing to do the same for the Retail version of the game.

I’d be very happy to part with £10 for a d/l to updat my Retail copy, but i’m damned if i’m buying the full game again.

can you do the same as UT3 and put your wic cd key into steam and it then registers your game to your steam acc ..?

i dusted off my old copy before christmas when all the good rts’s were delayed till … a couple of weeks ago … nuking stuff in WIC has to be one of the most satisfying experience in gaming, what makes it better/worse is that after a while you learn to spot the cruise missiles that carry them and get to see the mad scramble to avoid the blast radius

my only problem with getting soviet assault is the resent release of Dawn of War 2, Men of War and Empire: Total War. soviet assault gets a cookie for not having ‘War’ in the title but damn… not a good RTS for over 12 months and now 4 in the space of a month!

i honestly think games publishers have to be run my by people slightly more retarded than the retarded horse from family guy

Ok, the answer to (b) was a bit condescending, since there doesn’t seem to be a way to get just the update via any other way but steam. But can’t you register your boxed copy of WiC with steam and then install the update?
