Excellent: Fez Trailer The Second

By Jim Rossignol on March 25th, 2009 at 12:11 am.

The almighty righteous TIGSource totally scooped the second Fez trailer. The dimension-warping platformer still looks completely great. One day we hope Polytron will talk to us too. That would be a fun time. They even link to us on their blog, but they’ve never got in touch. Don’t be shy Polydudes, we aren’t just about the horrendous implications of journalist porn. Honest. Splendid safe for work Fez trailer below.

That looks amazing. A. Mazing. I love the music, too. Can’t wait for it.

    report

  2. Matt says:

Thank god this is still be worked on! I was really worried after the lack of information since the first trailer almost a year ago that it might turn into vapourware.

Really looking foward to this one.

  3. jsutcliffe says:

Good lord — I am getting tired of waiting for this unbelievably awesome looking game. When is it coming out? When!

    Also, that music is lovely.

    report

  4. noexes says:

How? What? How do they do that?

    report

  5. DigitalSignalX says:

This is like waiting for Goo. Know it’s there. Right there on the horizon. Small. Spunky. AWESOME. GIMMIE NOW.

  6. Baris says:

My god, I just know this is going to make me look stupid when I finally get my hands on it, why do I torture myself so…

    Day 1.

Been looking forwards to this for so long, and everything I have seen of it makes it look like it is a joy to play.

  8. Mark says:

Hrm, the video isn’t playing for me… I really want to check this out too! Anyone know of a mirror?

    report

  9. Baris says:

    @Mark:
You could try http://tigsource.com/articles/2009/03/24/gdc-09-fez-trailer-ii , not sure if it’ll solve it though.

  10. skizelo says:

Giving me headaches just thinking about the puzzles they’ll get out of that mechanic.

    report

  11. Mark says:

Thanks Baris, but it seems RPS and TIGSource are embedding the video from the same source, neither play for me for some reason.

  12. bhlaab says:

No doubt it’s impressive and looks fun, but every time I see it I can’t help but think how much better it would be if it wasn’t straight up cribbing cave story’s style

    report

  13. PleasingFungus says:

Man, more things need to crib Cave Story’s style. I have nothing but anticipation and excitement.

  14. Radiant says:

It’s like someone saw Nebulous and thought “These towers are a bit shit…gimme a second”
    This looks fabulous.

    report

  15. Supertonic says:

Fuck me it’s Nebulus :) I want this game.

    report

  16. MeestaNob! says:

    Wow that looks good.

    report

  17. Supertonic says:

Fucker beat me to it by one second.

    report

  18. Logo says:

I just hope the game doesn’t suffer the same problem as the Super Paper Mario (which had a 2d to 3d mechanic). Where, if you wanted all the hidden goodies, you had to constantly shift from one angle to the next. In Super Paper Mario it was especially annoying because you’d often have to go through a menu option to be able to make the switch.

  19. Radiant says:

“Fucker beat me to it by one second.”
    That’s what my misses said.

“That’s what Rossignol said as Kieron lit his cigarette” shurely.
My interface with this website has been forever scarred. Who would have thought it.

    report

  22. Nik Daum says:

The video isn’t working for me either, nor on the source site, or the developers site. The progress bar loads all the way, but when I press play it just shows black.

I wonder if China is blocking Vimeo now.

Based on everyone else’s comments, it sounds awesome!

  23. Esc says:

I am totally digging the chiptune soundtrack!

BLAST. Here I live in SF and work in the bottom of the barrel of this industry and I can’t even get time off for GDC! Thanks for tuning me into this RPS, it looks like a must buy.

HI I’M MAC AND THIS IS A TRAILER FOR FEZ

    report

  25. Rei Onryou says:

I just love how retro it looks, while being so up-to-date with mechanics. And the music was just right. Will keep an eye out for this.

I see the RPS slash/fic has already started. Does somebody want to start a 3-word-story-game of it in the forums?

    report

  26. Ian says:

    Why this looks mighty splendid.

    report

  27. Tei says:

This looks like is doable withouth 3D rendering…

    report

  28. dartt says:

Recently, an actual Rule 34 artist popped in to the RPS chat room. For a small fee she will draw anything having sex with anything.

We seriously considered commissioning some RPS porn.

    report

  29. Markoff Chaney says:

This looks phenomenal Each trailer better than the last. I’m glad it’s still going, since I was worried too that it might disappear. I was curious about all this Nebulus talk, since I apparently missed it first time around, so I picked up Tower Toppler. Maybe I’ll pick up on some residual glory while awaiting these new conventions wrapped up in a beautiful retrhomage. (Heh) Here’s to hoping Fez comes to us sooner than later, but polished, stable and fun. +1 for a map editor.

    report

  30. Richeh says:

Gah, I’d just forgotton about this. It’s like the indie gaming equivalent of orgasm denial.

    …I expect.

  31. gulag says:

What a wonderful, happy looking thing. Take that brown-games-with-small-walls-in!

    report

  32. Ploddish says:

dartt – considered? Past tense? Considering, more like. ‘Cept no one with electronic monies will commission said artist, for fear of RPS shunnage.

Oh, right, Fez. Looks truly, truly stunning. They might do a Black Mesa though (it’s inevitable), 2009 could mean December 31st :C

    report

  33. Bhazor says:

Trying to keep up with the perspective swinging is giving me flashbacks to the first Portal trailer. Just like back then I have a head ache and a strange happy feeling in my tummy.

Just hope it’s a proper game and not a three hour tutorial like Portal was.

  34. Theory says:

It lives! This is great news. I thought I’d never see Fez again.

  35. apnea says:

This thing better be on pc.

  36. whalleywhat says:

Everything I’ve seen for this game fills me with glee.

    report

  37. Wisq says:

The 3D rotation between 2D platforming reminds me of the PSP game “Crush”, except platform-y instead of puzzle-y — and without the obnoxious protagonist or equally obnoxious doctor with a clicheed accent.

Wanted to like it, but the whole thing was kinda “meh” because of that. This looks like it should be a lot better.

    report

  38. Chaos Theory says:

Awesome, I’ve been waiting for news about fez since the first trailer.

One thing that I noticed that might be a problem is just in knowing what to do. A lot in that trailer hinged on knowing what needs to be done when. It seems like it would be incredibly frustrating plummeting to your death repeatedly because you didn’t shift in the middle of a jump when you had to, or vice versa.

    report

  39. YeahRight says:

    Still vapourware, I see.

  40. That was the most awesome thing I have seen!
