Stalin Vs Martians has managed to get a firm grip of our attention based on its title, some songs, and Stalin doing a funny dance. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Now they’re showing us an enormous chunk of in-game footage! We should possibly take some notice of that too. It’s below.
I love how the game’s website spoofs exactly this response. They write,
“Obviously, the main concept behind the game is pretty much clear if you can see its name. It just speaks for itself. The fact that such game exists is quite an event. It doesn’t really matter what’s behind the name or if the game is playable at all. The concept is enough. Simply makes your brain explode.”
Of course, we interviewed Dreamlore last year to get some more details. But this is the first glimpse of some detailed footage, accompanied of course by a dancing girl who looks like she’s lifted from an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Thoughts?
This game looks like playing with little army men on a hobby train board, and this is an excellent thing. Memories of Micro Machines, Army Men… so much goodness.

Even if the game’s crap, I’m going to have to buy this purely because this kind of exuberant mental-ness needs encouraging.
They should have had the girl dancing with Stalin though. That would have been even more awesome. And mental.

It’s just so hard to hate the “[thing I love] vs. [thing I love]” formula, even when cynically applied by marketing bastards who have run out of ideas (Monsters vs. Aliens, anyone?)
THIS, however, seems very far from cynical. I endore it. And that’s what they need for success – the endorsement of me, FaceOmeter. Who no-one has heard of.

Sadly, they only confirm what has been expected since they first showed glimpses of their actual gameplay.
Bad Game with funny concept does not a buy make – good game with funny concept would. This is the former.

Yeah, I still have no idea how this game will play. If done right, it might show EA a thing or two about how to do a comedy RTS with communists.

I’m not finding the comic/desperate marketing funny anymore, but when the giant blue elephant fell over I felt sad. Perhaps they should let the natural melancholy of the game sell itself?

I love this game, it’s beautifully offensive and amusing, and I really hope it’s good because we need a game that tweaks square and dreary people to be good. Please, Stalin vs Martians, be good.
Plus, I have a new word for people tweaked by this game: Stalinated! I’ll be putting that to good use.
