Men Of War Campaign Generator, Stalker Mod

By Jim Rossignol on April 6th, 2009 at 3:11 pm.

This mod for current RPS strategy beau Men of War is a bit good: a dynamic campaign generator [FORUM DOWN AT THE MOMENT, you can use this link but the mod needs loads of stuff that is not detailed there, only on forum thread.], complete with a bunch of map packs. It allows you to build a sequence of battles in the skirmish mode, and populate them for attack or defence scenarios. The install process and required extras is a bit hefty, but I doubt that will be too much challenge for Men Of War enthusiasts. There’s also a realism mod out which is under continued development. There’s also some chatter about a native languages mod for replacing the English with Russian dialogue, but no sign of that at the moment. I’ve posted a video of the announced (but unfinished) Stalker mod after the jump, which is some kind of perfect collision between two games. Man!

I tried this a while ago and think it’s a great idea, the extra vehicle/map packs ar a must.

In other MoW mod news you should check out screenshots for the Star Wars and STALKER mods, the engine is amazingly adaptable and they look great.

  2. Awesome, I will update the post with that.

Wow. That’s quite the thing, I shall have to look into buying Men of War I guess :)

    Campaign Generator link broken.

  7. Ohhh I like the sound of a Stalker RTS.

I’ll have to buy MoW and have a looky now.

The realism mod link does not work

as much as I dislike RTS that STALKER mod looks awesome, looks like i’ll have to pick up Men of War now.

  10. It does work, but the DMS forums are down.

The clue is where it says “We are currently working on our server and apologize for the down-time.”

  11. What, there was voice acting in Men of War?

I was watching that video and thinking “What’s so impressive about this Stalker mod anyway? It’s just a flythrough of Agroprom”.

Then I understood it’s a mod for Men of War.

    report

  14. Okay, my intent is to set up a factional warfare server on an old rig. To play on my server you’ll need to download the ‘extended hats’ mod and the stalker mod. You’ll never ‘win’ and a zone storm might wipe everything out. Also you might get attacked by 200 blind dogs at any time with no warning!

I already loved Men Of War, even enough to forgive the terrible name and the keyboard smashing frustration of it’s general difficulty but now I’ve seen the STALKER mod video I want to have the developers children.

Men of War is good, but difficult. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is good, but difficult.

I suppose it was always just a matter of time.

Awesome, and more awesome. Long live the PC modding community.

  18. GC says:

That STALKER mod could even lean heavily on the RPG side of Men of War. Impressive !

  19. That Agroprom video is excellent. A spot-on recreation of that area in Stalker. Even mimics the little cutscene you get when you first go there in the game.

I will get around to buying Men of War at some point in the next few months. Definitely.

  20. Walsh says:

Wait, games with inventory features are now classified as RPGs??

    report

  21. Walsh says:

The dynamic campaign generator doesn’t seem to work to well for me, for some reason the handy unit list ‘ribbon’ on the left side of the screen has gone MIA.

And the enemy AI is, how you say, special ed.

And the arbitrary low unit cap makes the big beautiful maps seem kind of lifeless.

    It’s a great game though.

This is almost as exciting as the news that the Cosby Show is getting a XXX remake.

    report

  23. To the japanese+japanophile if you get xp its an rpg. Nothing else bares consideration. So saying inventory constitutes rpg is hardly contraversal.

    report

  24. Walsh says:

Really? CLEARLY I was referring to JRPGs…. nevermind that RPGs were invented by the west. There’s no character progression or infact characters at all, I’d argue thats the definition of a RPG. Men of War has named RTS units that can hold stuff in their pockets. I win.

    report

  25. I’m not supporting this behaviour. But go in to the average player and ask them to provide 2 features of an rpg, 80% they’ll say xp and inventory. The other 20% will say role and playing, hit those players.

    report

  26. Weylund says:

I’ll buy MoW now. Thanks for helping me avoid burning holes in my pockets.

I see the words “campaign generator” and take out my wallet.

  27. El_MUERkO says:

I picked up Men of War at launch because a) it sounded awesome (except for the actual sound, which is hilariously bad) and b) we need to support this kind of game.

However I’m currently up to my eyeballs in RTS’s and still haven’t got a chance to play Men of War for more than a few minutes.

Still though, I’m going to make time to try the Stalker Mod cause looking at that video their effort at Agroprom is staggeringly good!

    report

  28. Serondal says:

How can I be certain that when I buy Men of War that money is not going to fund slave trade and drug dealers in the Ukraine bringing that stuff over here (I’ll leave it up to you to decide where here is, here is there, where you are! Fear!) What if I spend all this money buying games from Ukraine devs and then Russia takes over again and all that money goes to buying a giant tank that ends up crushing me when Russia invades (here) Geeze I think I’ve been playing to many alternate reality games . (World in Conflict, Red Alert, Stalker, Fallout 3 ((yah those were Chinese but sitll commies!)))

if rant = 1 then end

    report

  29. MD says:

Oh man, the Stalker mod looks utterly amazing. There are more videos on the ModDB page, but as far as I can tell it has stalled a bit but not been cancelled. “Curently 3d modeller with knowledge of animation work is needed”, so if anyone reading this fits the bill, DO IT!
