RPS Rule #234: Silly Name=Linkage

By Kieron Gillen on April 15th, 2009 at 10:16 am.

Let’s start the day with a little webgame shootage, eh? The Mysterious Mr Macgregor pointed me in the direction of – deep breath - Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar. In it, you play a robot dinosaur who shoots a beam when they roar. Roar longer, beam gets weaker. Roar in short bursts, sounds very silly. Either way, it enlivens a basic yet charming left-right scrolling shooter. Also, a choice of two dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus X or Dinomite. They shoot beams when they roar.

Rule #234 is the best of the rules.

I played it before, it’s not a very good shooter. It just has a very good name and background. Man, cyber’d up dinosaurs, that takes me back to early 90s TV comic series goodness.

Jochen! They shoot beams! When they ROAR! :D

All they need now is a grappling hook and a rope.

    Yay! That was cool.

Not because it was a good game, in fact is quite mediocre, but the Saturday morning cartoon theme is so wonderfully realised it’s a complete win.

  12. So it’s basically R-Type with robosaurs? That game pioneered efficient energy management in a time when jumping on the heads of walking mushrooms was deemed the epitomy of computer gaming.
