Today is competition day on RPS. For the first time since it was released in 2003 the brilliant space-faring MMO Eve Online has a retail box, and to celebrate that CCP have sent us six copies to give away. Somewhat unusually for RPS competitions there is no region-constraint on any of our prizes today, so anyone may enter. If you want to find out how to win Eve Online then click onwards.

The retail version of Eve Online includes 60-days gametime, a special faction shuttle in-game, and lots of other stuff that accelerates the newbie experience in the game world. It’s a rather splendid bundle, even for jaded old pilots like me.

To win you need to email us via this link with the answer to this question: What is the best science fiction film, and why? The six most accurate or entertaining answers to this question, as judged by an RPS editor, will receive the prize. The closing date is midnight on the 26th of April.

Remember that we’ll need your postal address with your entry, and entry to the compo means agreeing to our terms and conditions. If you’re not happy sending us a postal address then don’t enter!

And here’s the most recent Eve trailer, just for good measure.

u can always try eve as it comes with a free download and a free 14 day trial. succesful players even pay their permanent account by buying game time cards ingame with ingame currency. Easier ofc is to pay a monthly fee and use that earned cash ingame to blow up the guy next to u in that juicy spaceship ;) or get blown up in the proces yourself ;). for me eve is the first mmo that keeps me hooked, and i tried a few over the years.

gl hf with the contest, and now to think of a movie for a second character ;)

Holy Hurrr-Durrr fest on here….I feel so very sorry for the site owners….I feel your pain.

Great contest, I entered thinking I’d never have a chance but now I feel much better!!

  3. Psychopomp says:

  4. pizdafripta says:

  5. Rod says:

Not gunna bother entering but I’d be stuck anyway between Gattica, 2001, Quiet Earth and Blade Runner. And I’m sure I’m missing 1 like Silent Running.

  6. Clippit says:

It’s not “Solyaris”, it’s “Solaris”, unless you’re being very pretentious. It’s also pretty ineffective as science fiction… unless you’re being very pretentious…

  7. Matte2 says:

My be a stupid question but anyway.

Do we need to put “Drinking At The Spacebar” in subject as we email our entry.

    Grtz

  8. Glorp says:

Do *gulp* Old scifi animations (like animes) count.

    /runs away.

  9. Finn says:

Well, if the Gods deem me worthy of winning I’ll spend the 60 days playing AND making a blog about it.

  10. z.o.o. says:

pick me, pick me! i’ve a low self-esteem and i’m constantly seeking external sources of validation. if you don’t pick me, then my friable zeal will be consumed by the ravages of a pop-culture induced, self-loathing from which would arise an insurmountable allegiance to the Nintendo Wii. Oh great RPS editors, you mellifluous and verile gods of the PC gaming punditry, please take pity on me, lead me not into casual gaming and deliver me from Nintendo.

  11. SilverArturus says:

Valkyore here, i think 2001 A Space Oddysee… heck my pc’s name SERIOUSLY is HAL, even behaves like him…. he quits and runs programs on HIS schedule

  12. Vince says:

Seriously 2001? Come on guys. I like the movie and think it’s epic but can we all agree that Kubrick sometimes makes movies that are more interesting than they are great. Or is it something that you had to have seen it in the theaters and been a teenager or greater when it came out? That’s my theory on Pulp Fiction (my personal favorite movie of all time) but people younger than movie don’t think of it as being as great as I think it is or it having the impact on cinema as I do. I think you should have to put your age first before submitting.

  13. question says:

When do we know who won ?

  14. dragosS says:

yah when we know :)), I voted for Gattaca, it had no space pewpew, sadly :) but I loved the vision of the future of humanity on that. hope I win :D

  15. Serondal says:

@question there is another post with the winners already mate.

I liked Gattacia mainly because it had Judd Law in it and I love anything he is in like a sad sick little fan boi ;P

  16. Lewis says:

urm where is this post with the winners on it? can someone give me a link?

  17. Wookiee says:

    Yeah, link please. I can’t find it…

  18. Wolffin says:

Best scifi movie. Killer Rotten Tomatoes! (only when hosted by Elvira mistress of the dark, tomatoes and jugs like that……heavenly)

Eve is a great game and despite what some have said Faction Warfare can be fun if it suits your play style just like missioning and piracy it is not for every one but some people like it.

  19. Ooyama says:

Chronicles of Riddick,, it’s the classic good vs. bad turned sideways, so it’s bad vs bad ;)

I like that twist to it,,

  20. Pirefui8l says:

@Ooyama sure you could go with some big blockbuster movie but i think the judges to this contest were thinking of something a little more origooouuugggghhhh!!!

  21. T.K says:

when and where the hell do they post up the winners?!?

  22. John G says:

I know its a little late, but I just had to mention the movie, “This Island Earth” filmed in I believe 1955. I first become aware of this movie after watching “Mystery Science theatre”. Which afterward I decided I had to see the movie for real. After viewing it I believe it is a Diamond in the Ruff, so to speak from the other movies produced in that time era.
