During the release of It’s Only A Paper Moon, April’s Flashbang Studios release, we showed you the video for the forthcoming Time Donkey. This time the super-speedy developers have behind-the-scenes footage showing the development of their other current project, Crane Wars. Guess what the game’s about. Go on, guess. It’s below, as you might imagine.
It’s the smooth, seamless demonstration we’ve come to expect from these refined gentlemen. Um, no, wait. It’s safe to say – and we love you, Flashbang – that this is possibly the least dynamic video of anything ever. However, still, crane fighting game! The first part of the video shows the animation for the crane driver, including the all-important tongue rolling abilities he possesses. Later we get to see things fail to spawn, and then finally 11 minutes in, a crane moving. The important thing is: you get to extend your crane and smash buildings. It looks a pretty involved game, as it happens.
There’s also this earlier video showing some much earlier footage:

I love how their desk is covered with a ton of toys : )
Finally something else to comment about. Edit seems to be gone again. <Edit. I guess not, maybe that other one is just locked: P
Wow yeah that seems… like pretty incompetent PR. Hopefully the game will be better :P
See on the drawing board behind the computer there is a picture of a guy sking down a line . . . extremly important to the entire devlopment of the game no doubt ;) I’m sure this will be a winner.
Jonas, it’s not meant to be PR! It’s a bunch of guys having fun, making awesome games. PR would be horrid.
It looked like the toys on the desk were actually cranes and stuff. i.e. Research!
I loved the real look at them actually working, though I’m not sure if that’s because I can somewhat relate to what all exactly they are doing.
Did the people in the bottom video intend to have striking similiar haircut/facial hair? Where one has more facial hair the other has more chop hair but other wise very similiar O.o
BTW crane in the bottom video has mad off road abilities!
That first video was quite awesome.
What’s with those ‘gloves’?
You just wish you had gloves as cool as that.
The closest guy in the second video looks a bit like a young Art Garfunkel.
Anyway looks rather cool.
These guys are BEYOND slick and smooth and professional.
Will spending the time to appear slick, smooth, and professional make our games more fun to play? :P
It was meant to be a pretty quick video, actually–we took it because we realized we’ve been so busy we haven’t been talking too much. I’m a bit surprised it got so much coverage, but I guess the lesson here is to keep a regular trickle of polished stuff coming out instead of boring videos…
Matthew: I think this was interesting enough.
By the way, there’s a Crane (well, Kran) Simulator published by Astragon. They have sims of everything.
No fighting in this particular sim, but physics. Grab a demo and see for yourself.
