Purdy-lookin’ forthcoming Korean MMO Aion – the one where flying plays a big role – is having a special European beta event on the 5th to 7th of June.The event will allow participants to play through the first twenty levels as an Elyos. To celebrate this, and, presumably to populate them servers, NCSoft are giving away a whole bunch of keys. Want one? Then all you need to do is email us. All gone, sorry!
Aion’s most recent outburst of prettiness is posted ‘neath the click, and it also happens to be the zone which will feature in the event.

Wulf I like a lot of what you said in your last comment but don’t altogether agree. Some people do jigsaw puzzles and get satisfaction from that but it’s not particularly exciting. In much the same way some people like grinding XP and I’m sure it instils the same zen like state of relaxation, with brief highs, in them that jigsaw solving offers for jigsaw fans.
The guy who goes base-jumping at the weekend is just going to look at you playing TF2 and wonder why you’re wasting your time doing that when you could be having REAL fun.
People are different and have different levels of excitement required. Trying to differentiate amongst what’s worthwhile and what isn’t, is not going to be decided by a theory, it’ll be decided by how people ultimately choose to spend their time.
It’s funny, how everyone criticizes WoW for grind, and at the same time forget that it’s most successful mmo out there :-)

Wulf man, how are races not essentially “go to x?” How are “find wandering NPCs” not “go to x?”
I said those components were nucleotides of video game objectives. Like the real thing, it typically takes some combination of these building blocks to make a quest or objective.
Don’t mistake what I’m saying for “gameplay.” Gameplay is much more varied. We’re essentially talking about stories, or purposes for playing the game.
Oh please. You’re playing a video game. Stop wasting your life in a dark room clicking at boxes on a screen. Life is too short to do anything but take part in visceral, Bacchanalic orgies.

Also, you’re using TF2 as an example of non-repetitive gameplay. Which is hilarious. Over half the servers only run 2fort, and all the other official maps are essentially tunnels from point A to point B. TF2 is by far one of the most boring, repetitive, disappointing, grindy multiplayer games I’ve ever had the displeasure of actually spending time with. WoW has more gameplay variety than TF2.
Well of course WoW has more gameplay than TF2 other wise people wouldn’t keep paying for it. You only pay for Tf2 once and then play it as much as you can stomach ;) Any team vs team game on small maps is going to be repetivie. IF you enjoy that activity then you’ll enjoy the game if you don’t, you’ll find it boring. Personally I can only take so much TF 2 before I gotta quit and go play something with a bit more depth, but it is still fun in small dosses.
Eltnen aren’t the area that will be the main place in the beta if it’s the slightest as the china/korean, as Eltnen is lvl20+ area, while the beta is 1-20, meaning they will be in Poeta(1-9) and Verteron(10-20).
This game looks very fun! I want to try something new other than WoW and FFXI. I’ve been playing both of these for 3 years now and I really want something new and exciting!
Just out of curiosity, after mailing, when do we get the key?
As this post isn’t closed yet, does that mean there’s still beta keys left for picks? In that case it’s taking suprisingly long to distribute them all. I hope it’s not some sort of random-pick from loads of emailers..

This game’s driving me crazy, I detest monthly pay but this game looks so awesome I can hardly hold myself. I’ve changed my mind about buying this game so many times already, I can’t seem to be able to make a conclusion. If I get my chance to try the weekend beta, I might finally be able to decide for good.

I’d love to put my hands on this. Never took the chance to play in Chinese ou Corean, like a lot of people did… And now that it’s coming for us, I just… can’t wait anymore :s

Look at it like just another bill at the end of each month ;)
Personally I’m glad they didn’t opt for the increasingly popular micro-transactions regime.
At least this way you know exactly how much money you’re, “investing”, in a game for every month played.
“Just another bill at the end of the month” would be the first ever monthly bill for me, I’m still a student and I don’t have a regular job to give steady income to guarantee I can pay it.
Not that I’m too poor to afford it, but it’s just such a big bother. I prefer it when you only need to pay once for a game and then its yours to play as long as you like.

well, if you mail them, according to the post, you are guaranteed to recieve a beta key.
They just give them out to any person that mails them, till they have run out of keys.

@ Ricardo, unfortunately I doubt that will be the case, as this is linked from the “official” AionSource community forums and I know hundreds are trying several sites to increase their chances of getting a key.
In short, I doubt they are really keeping tabs, and haven’t/won’t really close the post at the very moment the keys are all gone.
Which is a shame, Im getting false hopes :p

I posted my email 2 hours after this article was released, think my chances are pretty high :) I’m lucky I was even able to get on internet that day, was in the middle of nowhere xD and I had no idea about the incoming beta either.

Lol, I had 22 keys to give away, they ran out within 12 hrs haha. And still got friends who wanna play T_T
Also, the info is wrong about the eurozone players only being able to play. There is only 1 beta. EU/NA both will be using the same region server for beta. Whether you have eu key or na key, it’s the same.
Played in the Chinese server.Very interesting. I would like to get a key test for the euro.
