What's with all the Killing Floor hate? Is it the same game as NS? No, of course not - neither is Red Orchestra.

I am really, really psyched for NS2. I play with a certain Dude, who may or may not be a Marine, and the fun times on that server are rare. Rare enough that the only thing I get close to that much fun is TF2 on the PoE server.

Yeah, on the surface you might think, "not so impressive", but when you look that this is built from scratch by mostly 2 guys, it looks damn good. I mean, the door breakdown, the marine blackout time, the knock back, that wasn't scripted, that's all in-game, even the marine at the start (the dude that planted that flag), that guy was a marine with a flag model replacement over the knife (I'm not sure if I believe it, but ausns2.com says it's so, so I'll run with it). It looks pretty impressive, and does a good job of immersing you in an impressively built world. It's all the little things that catch your eye and make a game now-a-days, and I think this game has it.

"So outside of the scripted sequences listed I saw walking down a hallway with headbobbing, smoke and lighting effects. Not sure what is so impressive about the video. Still, the original was a blast and I’m excited to see how this turns out." It's not, really. Apart from how they decided they didn't have enough control with the Source engine so they made their own engine from scratch, with two programmers, one of which was mostly working on game code, design and project management.

It's not impressive at all.

(No, but I know what you mean. On the face of it it wouldn't seem that awesome, but when you look at the details and if you've been waiting for this game for over 2 years and a release teaser comes out, you get a little excited. Just a little.)

P.S. I was so excited I misspelt "Just" 'Lust'!

I would like to note that for people with lower-to-mid range PCs, ‘incredi-graphics’ can be quite scary.

It is possible that the engine requirements shown below are out of date now they have a fully-working engine and a working game, but the devs have said they are focusing on making the engine and game scalable so lower-spec machines can still run the game.

#1:

What are the system requirements?

A 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection.

#2:

The engine's main features are it's fully dynamic lighting, ease of editing (our editor looks like the game with no compiling or pre-processing) and efficiency even on low-mid end machines. To get an idea of visuals and performance, check out these two blog posts. (here and here - editor)

#3:

According to Valve's hardware survey, about 80% to 85% of respondents meet our minimum system requirements currently. Our plan is to deliver a great experience even on the minimum spec machine, so we don't expect many people to have to upgrade their computer to play Natural Selection 2.

That's funny, mentioning Killing Floor and NS in the same sentence. Sounds as if you were implying they are even remotely on a same kind of level.

What, Killing Floor is such a piece of crap. Red Orchestra is good though but Natural-Selection is a masterpiece. That's insulting to even mention Killing Floor!

@ Serondal, they've said this isn't simply an NS remake, they're making a completely new game. New weapons, abilities, an alien commander, everything!
