That’s grasping for a Aztec pun rather than promising this has an MP-option, by the way. Bad wordplay aside, Brother None thinks this has flown under most of even the specialist RPG radar. Whilst not having had a chance to play it yet, I think I agree. It’s an interesting looking Aztec-themed, side-scrolling action-game/RPG crossbreed, complete with optional side-quests. You don’t get many of them, y’know? You can download its demo from here, buy it from Direct2Drive and see its footage below…

Super Soldiers Are Super: New Prototype Footage
By John Walker on May 22nd, 2009.

Prototype is due to appear early next month, and boy do we like the look of the flesh-tearing, car-throwing, super-soldier-exploding madness. If it can really deliver on the non-stop carnage the trailers imply, then cor, it could be splendid. There’s a new trailer showing off various enemies to splode, including the tentacular Hydra and the mysterious Specialist. There’s also another trailer with the president of developer Radical, Kelly Zmak (which should be a word used in comics when someone’s punching), chattering about why he likes it. Guess where the videos are. GUESS.
SBK 09 Superbike World Championship Demo
By Jim Rossignol on May 22nd, 2009.

Motorbikes have never been sensible. I mean you can’t fall off a car, can you? Anyway, they do nevertheless produce racing excitements unlike any other, and the videogames which accurately portray the about-to-die experience of going very fast on a motorbike are few and far between. SBK 09 Superbike World Championship is hoping to get close with its licenced high-speed shenanigans, and you can play the demo of this latest superbike game right now, unless you are reading RPS at work or something. Naughty you. The demo includes a single track from the full game, which will apparently appear on PC on the 29th of May. Footage after the click.

Sniper & Spy Updates Online, TF2 Free Weekend
By John Walker on May 22nd, 2009.

And so it comes to pass, the Sniper/Spy update is live, TF2′s gone free for a weekend, and the price for keeping it has halved. Here’s what we learned. The Sniper got his Huntsman bow, then he got his Razorback shield. Things got weird, Spies started appearing, and then the Spy had two watches revealed, The Cloak And Dagger and The Dead Ringer. We then met the Spy, shortly followed by the Spy getting The Ambassador. Finally the Sniper gets a jar of piss, and somewhere along the way lots of new achievements were announced and a new Payload Race game mode. Enough? Good. Who’s next?
Behind The Scenes Of Crane Wars
By John Walker on May 21st, 2009.

During the release of It’s Only A Paper Moon, April’s Flashbang Studios release, we showed you the video for the forthcoming Time Donkey. This time the super-speedy developers have behind-the-scenes footage showing the development of their other current project, Crane Wars. Guess what the game’s about. Go on, guess. It’s below, as you might imagine.
Taking The Piss? TF2′s Jarate Is Real
By Alec Meer on May 21st, 2009.

The Hivemind keeps muttering to itself “let’s not give each of the TF2 sniper/spy updates its own post, but instead do a round-up of the lot once it’s all been revealed.” No other game gets this kind of treatment from us, after all. Annoyingly, Valve seem to have read our cynical minds, and have ensured that each and every info-drip is too significant or rampantly hilarious to ignore.
Like today’s Jarate reveal, turning a former April Fool’s gag into foul-smelling reality. Perhaps the Sniper being able to throw a tub of wee that temporarily increases the amount of damage his enemies take isn’t all that big a deal in the grand scheme of gaming, bar the initial hilarity/disgust of the concept. But the accompanying comic – oh, now that’s something that deserves a dozen posts all of its own.

Bellyaches: The Thrill Of Combat (And Party Boat)
By Kieron Gillen on May 21st, 2009.

Oof. Painage. Now, it took a few seconds before I realised The Thrill Of Combat is from the man behind Randy Balma: Municipal Abortionist, at which point everything made sense. Or, at least, I could see the point. Before we delve down this astoundingly painful hole, you may want to relax a little with his recent Party Boat. It’s kind of the demo for The Thrill of Combat, in that it features a helicopter, a boat and music by GDFX. It’s different in that it’s actually quite playable and charming, instead of The Thrill Of Combat which is… well, let me explain.

Fun Times: Browser Doom, Heretic & Hexen
By Alec Meer on May 21st, 2009.

While adult-me might have baulked at Killing Floor’s testosteronal presentation, I still revert gladly back to dumb little teenage-me whenever I play the original Doom. To this end, I am diligently ensuring I’m able to play the thing anywhere and anywhen. There is nowhere in my house from which I cannot reach Doom within a matter of seconds, be it on my PC, my 360, my hacked iPhone. In case of grumpy, old-man-y emergency: fire up the game. This has become even easier now there’s a proper-shiny, free in-browser version of id’s medium-defining dumbass shooter. Bonus: it includes Heretic and Hexen too.

Alpha Protocol “Reactive World” Trailer
By Jim Rossignol on May 21st, 2009.

So we were complaining that upcoming spy-thriller RPG Alpha Protocol hadn’t shown us much of the actual game, particularly the dialogue. Well, that’s changed with this new trailer, which fleshes out the talky stuff a little better, and demonstrates some of the possibilities for being a bastard to the people you deal with. But it also has some neat in-game footage showing off some of the more interesting combat move. The bit where the player cuts from melee back to ranged weapon is most interesting. Anyway, take a look, as I think this is the most revealing trailer so far.

Ultro-Mod: Stalker Complete 2009
By Alec Meer on May 21st, 2009.
Jim’s already done an extensive round-up of the more interesting mods for Stalker: Clear Sky, but me, I’m happy sticking to the original Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. While the Oblivion Lost mod and its million features is the most renowned fan-tweak, there’s much to be said for retaining the game’s original structure rather than necessarily embracing such sweeping changes. With that in mind, I’m very much enjoying replaying SHOC with the Stalker Complete 2009 modpack. Primarily, it simply makes the game much, much prettier. How pretty? This pretty:

The Extraordinary Saga Of Left Behind
By John Walker on May 20th, 2009.

So it appears there’s to be another Left Behind game. Despite the best efforts of an apparent misinformation campaign that set out to destroy the first of the Christian RTS series, they have risen like Lazarus and are back with… What, you’ve never heard of the Left Behind game? That might have something to do with the information campaign that observed how absolutely astonishingly awful the first one was. But you can’t keep angry multi-millionaires down, and Left Behind: Tribulation Forces is announced for the masses this Christmas. Announced in one of the most incredible press releases I’ve ever seen. Read on.
