Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift... how to write a resume

I just wanted to throw out there that I named my first character Yalson Shepard, since we've got so many Culture references in here. Paragon, but she was not without a mean streak.

Re: Cerberus

"Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying threat mankind has ever faced.

To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy’s most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, they say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong. "

@Houdini: No, I simply enjoyed the game. What you call Bioware's "typical strong points" are things I think they're usually horrible at. I don't think Bioware are particularly good RPG developers. They've made a few games I enjoyed, and a whole lot of crappy ones. I am definitely not easier to please just because the game has a Bioware label stuck on it. On the contrary, that makes me suspect that I'll have to endure the inifite story that's going nowhere, the dull characters, the cliched and overused setting that games like NWN2 suffered from.

But I played ME, and I had fun. For once, a Bioware game *did* actually have some interesting characters and good story presentation. It even had a setting I wanted to explore.

Combat was fun. Planet exploration was good *enough* to keep me going through it. After the first handful of planets it did get repetitive, but it was saved by 1) being interleaved with generally fun combat, and 2) by being optional. And of course, 3) being rewarded with XP and achievements!

I like the game simply because I was able to play through it without getting tired of it, or without having to force myself to play on.

@Tom: I think Bioware got off easy because the majority of people that played Mass Effect were so enamored by Bioware's typical strong points (story presentation, interesting characters) that they forgot about all the things that didn't work. I agree with your analysis but I think we are in a minority for critiquing the WHOLE game, not just one facet.

Diziet can't be the first human Spectre- her drone friend would turn every enemy she came across into a red paste/metallic slurry in the blink of an eye.

I could see a Djan Shepard, though.

I think I have dear Diziet Shepard's savegames lurking around somewhere. Let's just say that she was, well, a little unpredictable when it came to behaviour...

(I can't have been the only one playing as a Special Circumstances agent complete with a serious FYT suit, surely?)
