Morning Webgame: I Love Traffic

By Kieron Gillen on June 18th, 2009 at 11:03 am.

Doctor Vroom!

Just a quick post to let people get a-clicking first thing on this Thursday morning. Mikkel from Denmark was having fun with a couple of things on Armor Games. Crush the Castle we’ve covered before but I love traffic has been left unexplored until now. It’s a little like those locomotion-railway games but with cars, with you controlling the flow of traffic just with lights. Crashes are inevitable! Also, gives tiny facts about animals when you die, for no discernible reason. We approve.

Fun game, and the music is strangely compelling…

I agree, the music is perfect for the game.

Wooo! I can download it! That means I can play at work! More thinks later (if it’s a slow day). ;)

I got into this a while back – it’s somehow waaay more it ought to be!

  7. Super Bladesman says:

There should be an ‘addictive’ in there :(

  8. Norskov says:

I found that most levels could be completed with just leaving it on green..

Fabulously fun and simple little game. Addicitive and tense (but that might be all the morning coffee and the banjo!). Reminded me of that ATC game Control Tower SFO (http://www.joelesko.com/games/sfo.shtml). Also loved the physics on crashing!

Nice little game, but the levels seem to vary between super easy and super annoying.

Also, they really ought to judge by how many cars leave the screen safely. I’ve caused many a “Level Complete!” bust-up. :D

The URL IU posted for the ATC game included the last bracket for some reason:

I admit that was an enjoyable blast. But I also have to say I’m very grateful for the mute option. The music just annoyed me way too much.

@Norskov… no way unless you didn’t get past level 3 or something

  14. Norskov says:

    @Jayteh
I made it to level 18, and I said most. Others can be made with at most 10 clicks.. So far today i completed the first 7 levels with just green light..

I started doing a game like this once, i even mentioned it on RPS (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/03/07/deserved-kudos-positechs-cliff-harris-interview/#more-1273) glad to ee someone has made a finished game out of it.

  16. DizietSma says:

Ah reminds me of a game on the Amiga that had the same premise, except in that you could make the cars crash!

  17. DizietSma says:

Err.. couldn’t. Oh where have you gone edit button!

  18. Markoff Chaney says:

How odd. My comment was about Cargo Bridge, which I don’t know how I got from there to here from… It was too early in the morning. Yeah! That’s the ticket!
I’ll check this one this evening, if I can.

  19. Cute, but I got bored at level 15. Who would build a junction like that?

    report

  20. TCM says:

Beat the game, and I have to say, it reminded me of some of the rather harrowing intersections here in Georgia. (Where, apperently, intersection designers and traffic managers thought it’d be more fun if you checked to see if your heart was still functioning after every signle crossroads.)

    report

  21. pepper says:

I wish there was a way to opperate the trafic lights with the keyboard!

Anyway, my evil instincts told me to switch on all 4 lights on one level, unfortunately all cars stacked nicely together and passed eachother! I was quite impressed until a speed went by a little fast.

    report

  22. Hmm-Hmm. says:

Stopped at level 20, I think. That was just ridiculously annoying. (the one where you direct four lanes all next to one another, with the lights at different positions ). But pretty entertaining up to that point.

    report

  23. Mad Doc MacRae says:

Stopped at 18. Rather pushy drivers that can’t wait a few seconds for me to keep them from dying…

    report

  24. Beerio says:

Last couple of levels are pretty tough, but that was a fun game. The traffic backing up too much is a pain in the buttocks on the last couple of levels.

    report

  25. DizietSma says:

@spooky that’s the one, at least a C64 version of the Amiga game I was thinking of. Well found!

    report

  26. Speedcore says:

the music did my head in around level 12.
