My iPhone has a decent sized crack in the screen, and i was wondering what should i tell the genius bar workers is wrong with my phone (other than the screen) so they will replace my iphone. I need something that they can't really check right then, and will have them just replace my phone

It wasn't DRM that was at issue. That was a big factor, but more in delaying the release and exposing it to the real issue.
NWN2 just didn't deliver... The modules were buggy, and the patching process made it worse - I don't recall a single update that didn't require a hot-fix patch soon after.
Finally now that MoW is released, you have fewer potential sales, as the player base dissipated due to the lack of quality in the base product.

@ Jacques - there is a big difference between DRM and copy protection software. That list makes no differentiation between the two. Most of the Tages/securom stuff i am fine with because they do not require internet and authentication servers to be able to play your game.

I don't expect games to ship without copy protection but i do not like buying games with DRM.

I guess you define DRM differently to myself otherwise we wouldn't have had this little aside. :)

Another fan of Mysteries of Westgate. It's a shame the whole DRM thing overshadowed/delayed its release, as it's a really good adventure, and worthy of a larger audience.

I liked a lot of things about LOTRO, but one of the things that ultimately didn't work for me was precisely how low magic it is. There are only a couple of "caster" classes and even then you're more throwing bags of powder around than using honest to goodness magic. I like high magic settings much, much more. Else it's hardly even worth making it fantasy.

This seems like as good an opportunity as any to talk about a controversial issue I have put some thought into:
Voiceover makes RPGs and Adventures worse. It's boring to listen to these guys talk for that long. Nobody talks that long in real life. It's OK if you read it, because then you are still doing something, and it's over more quickly. But listening to the voiceovers during conversations takes so long, and I am just doing nothing during that time. Reading along also doesn't work, because I read faster than they talk, and then their talking is just distracting. Add to that that most actors for games simply aren't very good, and I think it would be a better decision to not record voiceovers for any conversation that takes longer than a minute in games.

@duoae overstatement? Not really, take a look at this list http://forum.daemon-tools.cc/gamedb.php?letter=all Hell, just look at how many games have securom on them, it's a rather massive list.

I agree that authentication/activation DRM for single player content is a little heavy handed, but how many games these days ship without any sort of multiplayer content?

@Jacques - That's gross overstatment.... clearly i would not have bought any of the games i've been playing for the last five years if that were the case.

On the other hand, you'll note that i specifically say authentication/activation DRM for singleplayer and local content. I have bought multiplayer games with this form of DRM because i require access to their servers anyway to play the game..... i still don't like being tied to their untrustworthy and unstable services (tough economic climate anyone?) but if i want to play with other people then most games these days won't let you P2P between each of the players without first going through their servers.... i think it's a sorry state of affairs.

It's worth mentioning that the most excellent RPS forums appear to have their own Westgate rep available for comment on certain issues.
