There would be some manner of truck pun I could do here, I dare say.

This demo accelerated out of – er – wherever demos accelerate from in – er – the recent past (”Yesterday”). It’s a truck-based racing-with-guns chaos thing and is out in a couple of days time. Is it any good? Well, that’s why they released this 600Mb-or-so demo. Go have a nose. To get a taste, you’ll find the trailer Jim linked to (and was mean about) beneath the cut…

this game really grinds my gears!!

  2. kikito says:

    optimus prime ftw rofl

  3. Frankie The Patrician[PF] says:

That looks so insanely geeky…man, meh want. Trucks with guns, helicopters, cockpit view AND PC only? Wow, just wow…

  4. ZIGS says:

I noticed the game is very slow, hopefully, you’ll be able to fix this with upgrades and stuff like that. Otherwise the gameplay is pretty solid

  5. Simon Jones says:

I love that the rainbow is an actual physical item in the world that you drive past. Brilliant.

  6. hydra9 says:

I like what I’ve played, though yep, there’s not a huge feeling of speed at this point, and the default guns are pretty weak (Upgrades will help on both counts). The in-cab view gives me warm fuzzy memories of Quarantine. And it’s ridiculous fun to do the mission where your character gets pissed off and has to work off his anger by driving headlong into any innocent motorists he sees. Pro Tip: The game looks so much better if you turn off a couple of the blur and haze-type settings.

Reminds me of an old game called Ignition
    Anyone remember that?

  8. Frankie The Patrician[PF] says:

Yep, I still have Ignition somewhere… it was fun to drive with the school bus and hear the kids screaming…crazy stuff

  9. Michael says:

Played a preview-copy some time ago and well… nothing special about this one. Clutch (from the same developers) was more fun and it had zombies. still Gear Grinder was kinda boring. Some of you may know it under the name “Sledgehammer” as it has been released in russia about 1 or 2 years ago.

  10. duel says:

looks like a mod of flatout2. One where they have added guns.

  11. James says:

Minor gripe: any chance you could state on posts, preferably at the outset, what format/s the game you’re talking about is for? It would make the site and RSS infinitely more easy to read for those of us a little pushed for time. Thank you.

  12. Alec Meer says:

There’s a very big clue as to what format each and every game we write about is on. I wonder if you can find it.

  13. Ben Abraham says:

For those of you a little pushed for time – check out the RPS banner tag-line “PC Gaming since 1873″.

  14. bill says:

Looks like (a not so good) interstate 76

  15. James says:

“For those of you a little pushed for time – check out the RPS banner tag-line “PC Gaming since 1873″.”

My bad. Strike me from the record.

  16. James says:

    Though I suppose a Windows/linux clarification couldn’t hurt ;)

  17. shiggz says:

    Remember “Hard Truck: Apocalypse”

    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/apocalypticwars/index.html

IMO it started pretty fun but then quickly made all the same mistakes as Far Cry 2 did recently.

  18. Hodge says:

@James A thousand Mac users died inside when they read your comment.

That trailer just makes me want to watch Duel again.

  19. hydra9 says:

    @shiggz:
It’s from the same developer. And while it’s a flawed game, it’s also one I have a lot of affection for :)

  20. Nice one, I will try it’s demo version soon.
