Plants Vs Zombies… Online

By Kieron Gillen on September 23rd, 2009 at 3:43 pm.

Except not as sexy as that sounds. There’s a webgame version of Plants Versus Zombies available. It features three game modes – 14 levels of Adventure, Endless Survival and Vasebreaker – with 12 plans and 6 zombie types. And a new zombie type. Crikey. The biggest problem for me it actually shares with the new game. I lost my save, so would have to play through all the tediously easy early adventure levels to get to the actually interesting challenge modes. But for newcomers to the game, it’s a fine place to newly come.

That would be awesome. A combination of the I, Zombie mode and standard play. Plants vs Zombies PVP. Win.

Isn’t the full version made in Flash as well?

Interesting, but what I'm really want is an iPhone version.

    Most misleading title ever :(

Does the full version have a difficulty besides [very] easy? I shouldn’t have wasted my time on this.

Would be awesome to have an online pvp mode. Zombies should be able to send miss leading letters scrawled in chicken scratch asking them to open the door :P

    @Lucas

All the good stuff (like the more-difficult survival modes) only unlocks after you beat the (incredibly tedious) adventure mode.

I may have mentioned this before but I played a few levels of PvZ then read the help file to makes sure I wasn't missing anything. After reading the help file I assumed I Just had the most fun I was ever going to get out of the game and stopped playing right then so I didn't ruin my impression of it :)

    • Vinraith says:

The help screen IS pretty hilarious. Still the survival modes and puzzles/minigames after the main adventure mode really are a lot of fun, and worth the slog to get there.

“with 12 plans”. Are you sure about that? What if I come up with a thirteenth plan?

There was another Zombie game that I’ve had in the back of my mind the last few times I visited this site. For the life of me I can’t remember what it was now……possibly by Capcom? No it’s gone…

Off Topic: Has RPS lost weight? or just width?

I remember this REALLY good zombie Starcraft mod where each player started with 1 character they got to choose from a list of characters and the object to do survive as long as possible. The map had a lot of buildings in it and you could move around and set up turrets (now that I think about it ,this may have been WC3 I can't really remember since you could have Space Marines and Hydralisks in WC3) IT was a great deal of fun and even working together you often lost when a big nasty zombie came in and bashed past everyone :)

That’s much, much better than I thought it would be, as I hate the concept of tower defence games.

The Puzzle mode is near impossible past level 3 though as the Football Zombie just mauls you unless you’re lucky enough to unearth him whilst you have about four freezy plants around.

    Most overrated game ever.

That was actually rather dull. Didn’t bother finishing it.

For me it load and loads…. and then freezes. Oh well.

  21. Chaz says:

Yeah I thought it was a bit boring too. Strangely addictive, but boring none the less. Just chuck down 2 rows of sunflowers or sunshrooms, a row of frozen peas and what ever else you want, and bingo, job done.

Hmm, not really suited to the impress-me-in-2-minutes-or-I’m-off world of flash games, is it?

Nonetheless, to those who never tried it, I insist the full version becomes very worth it after an hour’s investment of time.

Ooh, I like the random avatars by the way – much better than the old, default grey outline of a non-extistent guy.

  24. Lucas says:

I can’t believe my post was [made beautiful in all things]. To clarify: I specifically said “[very] easy” because it was SO [golly]ing SLOW to drudge through this. More than an hour of “total cakewalk, please wait for real gameplay” mode. Please look up [very] in the dictionary. Wait, I’ll save you the time. It means [very].

  25. Lucas says:

[Very] funny, censors win. But seriously, why bother?

Hm, I copied the old savegame to the new installation, and I found nothing: No new game modes, no new zombies. No idea what this article is talking about.

    report

  28. Matt says:

@Jochen: It would seem so. The article pretty clearly says it’s a webgame with a few new features, so you might have just wasted your time downloading it again.

    report

  29. Jochen Scheisse says:

Okay, I now played through the webgame. No new game modi, one “new” zombie type: the old football zombie with differently colored gear, otherwise exactly the same as the old football zombie.

    report

  30. John says:

Played through the full version after trying the demo.
Maybe 8 hours of gameplay in the whole thing. A little disappointing. Fun to get through but way too easy.
