The Secret World: Factions, PvP Details
By Jim Rossignol on September 10th, 2009.

Yesterday we spoke to The Secret World project lead Ragnar Tørnquist. He revealed a whole bunch of new information about the urban fantasy MMO of monsters, secret societies and mysterious evil, which is now sounding increasingly awesome: a (sort of?) real-time combat system for PvP, a subterranean city for the secret societies for fight over, and a mutual war against evil and darkness in the real world. Along with the three factions he’s revealed a little about their HQ buildings, the share social hub for each faction, and the PvP impact of guilds, or cabals as they will be known. More promising, perhaps, is an MMO that eschews traditional vertical structure of RPGs, opting for a “horizontal” advancement that will allow people to contribute to higher end PvP stuff from the very start. Yes, there’s every reason to believe that Funcom might finally be on the right track. Read on for our chat with Tørnquist, or go here for our previous interview.
Brucie Bonus: Free DLC for Batman Arkham Asylum
By Alec Meer on September 10th, 2009.

I’ll be Wotting My Thinks all over Rocksteady’s much-ballyhooed Batman adventure next week (we’d hoped for sooner, but I’ve been fruitlessly chasing review code for weeks now. Apparently the fancy PhysX effects have held it up), but until then let’s bask in the warm glow of promised free stuff. No idea what the free DLC will be, but it’s due on the 17th – a mere two days after the PC release – and will hit all three of the game’s platforms. Lovely to not be left in the dust of the console folks for once. Hopefully we’ll enjoy the PS3′s Play As The Joker mode at some point too.
“Not Your Mom’s Tower Defense”
By Alec Meer on September 10th, 2009.

I still love tower defence games, and flip you for saying otherwise. Flip you right in the fliphole. So, the just-revealed Colony Defense has attracted my easily-distracted interest, as it’s TD across a suitably orb-shaped planet rather than a flat plane. Sure, the enemies still march in convenient lines, but the idea is you ping all over the planet’s surface and manage multiple battles at once. There’s a video below, sadly narrated by an incredibly sleepy-sounding man, but it gives a flavour of what this is going for.

Even Supremier: Supreme Ruler 2020 Gold Demo
By Kieron Gillen on September 10th, 2009.

I’ve been meaning to have a proper look at Supreme Ruler 2020 all year. It clearly doesn’t care, and its splendidly-named developers Battlegoat have marched on to a Gold edition to be released on the 18th. To celebrate that coming day, they’ve released a whole new demo, which you can get from here. Can’t find a trailer for the gold edition especially, but here’s one for the last add-on pack we’ve never posted before. Go post! Go post! GO POST!

Edge Curiosity Increasiment: Mythora, Investigated.
By Kieron Gillen on September 10th, 2009.

Many people have mailed us this, and I’d already picked it up as it was bouncing around Twitter. The whole Tim Langell Edge Games Situation is heading in fascinating directions. Chaos Edge do proper, determined digging which it’s almost a shame to attempt to paraphrase. In short, they argue that a game available on their shop is a retro-fit, made to appear older than it is, and with some dubious claims surrounding its creation. It’s getting to almost Limbo of the Lost-esque proportions here. Crikey. Go and read it all.
They’ve Flown: We Have No Aion Beta Keys
By Jim Rossignol on September 10th, 2009.

We do not have a handful of Aion beta keys to give out, because we sent them all off. You can’t get any now, even by emailing us, because they’re all gone. Any Aion beta-key begging correspondence will now be fed to the bile worms. I’ve edited this post instead of removing it, so you all know what’s going on. If you’ve not received anything by now then you didn’t get a key, sorry!

You’ll have seen our Aaa(Snip!-Ed) review yesterday. Dejobaan responds to the comments thread. In a micro-youtube video. Bless them.

Nobody Expects It: Inquisitor
By Kieron Gillen on September 10th, 2009.

This burst into my consciousness on Monday via a Qt3 thread noting that it looks an interesting Baldur’s Gate/Savage-esque RPG with some rather amusing English on the webpage (“100 km of tortuous corridors”). That’s been fixed now, alas. Anyway – it’s 10 years in the making. It promises an enormous 1500 page script. You actually play as an inquisitor. It’s also from Central Europe – Czech this time. And… well, it does sound rather like it’s the best candidate for a new Witcher in some time. Fingers crossed, eh? You’ll find its trailer below…

Why Can’t I… Skip Ahead In Games?
By John Walker on September 10th, 2009.

There was a comment made by comedian Adam Carolla, many years ago, during an episode of the American late-night radio programme Loveline. He had been given an Xbox 360, because celebrities get given stuff like that, and decided he’d buy a game for it. One which involved fighting in the Second World War in some capacity. It interested him as a fan of History Channel documentaries on the subject, and he liked the idea of recreating classic battles. But when he tried to play he couldn’t get out of the opening area.
This isn’t a comment on gaming inaccessibility, or how cackhanded Carolla must be, but rather it’s about something he said after this. He said, “Where’s the button that lets me just skip to the next level?”
Time’s Collapsing! Singularity Walkthrough Trailer
By John Walker on September 9th, 2009.

I’m maintaining my optimism for Singularity. I love all the time-twisty effects and ideas, and I’m intrigued by the mysterious nature of what I’ve seen so far. The latest walkthrough video is just the one I’ve wanted to see – an explanation of how the time-bending works. Including details on the “null zone”, a place that exists between time, that I think looks rather spiffy.
