Red-Blue glasses are terrible, since they ruin the colors of the game, obviously. You definitely want the ones that split frames so that every other frame is seen by the left-right eye. The glasses are fairly cheap
but you need a monitor that can handle 120Hz. That's the only thing special about the new 3D monitors, since this kind of 3D technology has existed for a while, you just needed to use a CRT monitor up until now. Tried it with Rome Total War and Battlefield Vietnam, would love to see it on a modern game like Crysis!

"Man, I hate not meeting the expectations of hardware elitists with pre-determined opinions." - Alec Meer

Hey Alec!

While I appreciate that the decades out of date red/blue glasses may be the only equipment you have at your disposal right now, please don't mistake "informed" for "elitist". ;=)

Anaglyph glasses have nothing to do with modern stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) gaming solutions, and the cardboard glasses you are using do not represent a true 3D gaming experience. Anaglyph glasses are considered the worst and most uncomfortable form of S-3D technology around, and should not be used for review purposes.

Maybe if the review was framed as an anaglyph review versus a modern stereoscopic 3D gaming review, it would have come across differently. Your opinions are legitimate when framed around this particular 80's technology.

Here is an additional link that should assist in improving your S-3D gaming experience further, even with anaglyph. With NVIDIA drivers, you will need to activate the advanced hotkey options (CTRL F5 and CTRL F6 to control convergence).

no need for that, i was just pointing out some common mistakes
i use red/cyan 3$ carton glasses and i would love to get my hands on the 3D Vision kit

i hope that more ( correct ) media coverage of this 3D Stereo thing would improve the games and make the hardware prices less prohibitive

cheers :)

The biggest problem I have with 3D specs is that I have to take off my normal specs for them to sit properly on my face. So then I get 3D Fuzz O'Vision if I sit any further than two inches away from the screen...

There are also special 3D ("autostereoscopic") monitors you can use, that use different techniques (e.g. polarization) to provide the effect without needing any glasses.

They're even more expensive than the fancy glasses, though. :)

I did of course mean shutter glasses halve the refresh rate and halve the brightness..

Though they do make me look like Uber-Dork:
Would.
According to the 3D list, AvP2 works well. I don’t think I could handle playing that in 3D. Having facehuggers/aliens jumping out of the screen at me would result in fluid loss…

LCD shutter glasses are in theory better with TFT monitors, because although CRT has variable resolution and refresh rate the two effects of shutter glasses are 1) halving the resolution and 2) halving the brightness. CRT simply isn't brilliant at eye searing brightness (with a few exceptions which drive the tubes rather hard).

ATI doesn't have their own drivers but appears to be pushing the IZ3D monitor and drivers. IZ3D also supports other monitors and glasses.

The other multi graphics card supporting solution is Tridef. Both IZ3D and tridef have had good responses.
